Hi karen obviously we're not doctors here so we cant diagnose but how old is your daughter? There are conditions that can cause that which someone on this forum may suggest. Presume alcohol not involved right?

Both ALT & ALP are liver inflammation markers (although they can be raised due to other conditions). Are doctors running further tests to see what is going on? As Briccolone says none of us on the forum are medics we can only speak of our personal experiences and gleaned knowledge. It sounds like your daughter needs a barrage of tests to establish what is going on.

When you say she is unwell, what symptoms is she experiencing? When in hospital has she been seen by a gastroenterologist or better still a hepatologist? They need to get to the bottom of this because they need to sort out what is causing the high inflammation markers and stop that before potential damage is caused.

There are liver diseases which children get and there is a children's liver disease foundation with a website at:- childliverdisease.org/ They might be able to give you better guidance as to childhood liver conditions.

Hope you get some answers very soon.

Hello Katie, sorry for the late reply. My daughter is now out of hospital which is good but we are still none the wiser why she had pancreatitis. Tamara is now on a liquid diet and they've given her supplements to take for 3 weeks. Tamara's ALP is still slight high and now her pancreatic emnyzes are now on the low side, so her bloods are still saying there is something wrong.. It's just so worrying.xx

Sorry I can't offer any further guidance as I have absolutely zero knowledge about pancreatitis. Hopefully Doctors will get to the bottom of her condition very soon, I presume they are going to review her shortly.

All the best, Katie x

Hi Katie,

Yes my daughter is due to see the specialist on her 21st birthday (10th Jan) so hopefully we will get some answer why she had pancreatitis and why every time she end up in hospital with stomach pain and raised ALP/ALT.

Any condition that causes liver inflammation will raise AST and ALT and sometime ALP. Fatty liver will also raise them but usually they are mildly elevated in fatty liver around 2-3 times the upper limit of normal.
