Well done for not having a drink for 6 days. Have you been referred to a specialist/heptologist? If not, you must request an urgent referral to see what stage you are at re cirrhosis; plus they will do other tests.  You must not drink any alcohol at all ever again to be honest; as this will make your liver worsen even more.   If it became necessary for you to have transplant you will be expected to stay off the drink. Try to get as much support as you can. Look up local authority help/ u'll get support here too.     Its possible to live a relatively normal life even with alcoholic cirrhosis; but this depends on what stage you are at; but no drinking is essential.   You will need to change your diet too i think; nothing salty; but others can advise you more about this.  Do you have any more information?

best wishes,  susieanna x

Thanks for getting back to me yes I've got a consultant I'm due to see him on the 14th April I'm just so scared I don't want to die I did a detox in October last year and stay dry for a while because my liver was damaged but repairable but I relapsed about 3 weeks ago but not had anything since last wednesday

sorry to hear that-interested to know how you've been diagnosed.? Having jaundice not a great sign if its alcohol related. How long have you been like that? You have to stop drinking now! Do that and you have a chance of recovery-if you don't I'm afraid your condition will worsen. Please post any test results you have. You're quite young so you have  fighting chance. This is the site for you- loads of great experience and caring people.

I've had the jaundice since October but then it cleared and now it's slightly come back

Very scary.

Take Susie Anna's advice. I had been drinking for a long time. Its brill that you have an amazing family, take strength from them, you'll need it.

Take each day as it comes. Like Susie said 'hang on in there' keep in touch.

Thinking of you x

Yes. You are very young.. try to keep busy.  Do you have supportive family?  I hope so.  Somehow you must learn to live without alcohol. I know how hard this will be. But honestly you are so young and you can start your life afresh. Think of things ud like t do in the future. Save any money you would have spent on drink for something special for yourself. Hang on in there.  Let us know what the specialist says. Xx

When you had the detox was it part of long term alcohol counselling?  If not make sure that by the time you see the consultant you are fully engaged with alcohol services.  If your going to be considered for treatment they will expect you to make every effort to stop drinking permanently.  My story is a lifetime of drinking and thinking it wasn't a problem until a total collapse exactly one year ago.  I am now 18 days post transplant  Hopefully you will not need such a dramatic solution but the only sure way to recover from any damage and prevent any future liver damage is to never have another drink and that is best achieved with support from alcohol services. Hope all goes well for you.

It will take time but everyday you do not drink, your liver is healing and your eyes will turn white again. The healthier you make your diet, the faster the results, add any form of exercise even walking 30 minutes or an hour everyday and you will heal faster. Good luck.

Hi,  i was also told by my GP i have cirrhosis which showed on an ultrasound scan in december 2015.  I have my hospital appt today.  So will post the results.  I have been alcohol free for 3 months now.  After a few days of no alcohol i felt a bit better, 3 weeks and i thought wow i feel normal again but after 3 months i feel like a different person!  So hopefully i will find out the extent of my liver damage today.  But, my advice to you would be carry on not drinking alcohol and see how much better you will feel.  I dont even crave a drink now and my kids bought bottles of schloer grape juice and raspberry lemonade for me on mothers day.  I love waking up hangover free.  Hang on in there.  I had some excellent advice from people here. Xx

Hi,  I know it's a scary time at this moment but you are on the right track (your not going to die)  I had to let you know that as you mentioned that was what you was scared of.  I won't lie to you though it isn't going to be easy either your life is going to be full of hospital appointments for the foreseeable.  The determination you have now not to drink ever again you have to hold on to that as you will be asked over and over again about alcohol,  if you can you should have a local alcohol and drug team get hold of them and get an appointment it will help they done wonders for me.  Where in the UK are you? I got diagnosed at 35 and I was in shock too but don't stress till you have seen consultant they will let you know the plan but also ask if you don't understand something.   Let us know what happens and remember we have all been through it and we will help you x

Ah OK. You will probably get referred on to a bigger hospital depending on how severe your cirrhosis is.  Are you feeling better today about it and in that I mean stronger and calmer

Oh right. Mine is sort of like an ache, comes and goes. Doctors still can't diagnose me even though I have mild fibrosis

I keep going on Google to read up about it and it's probably the worst thing to do it makes you so paranoid

I would just like to say don't worry to much about anything else eating healthy etc at the mo your main thing is to keep off the drink you can worry about the secondary stuff after cutting out the main problem I treated my self to some food treats once I got back my appetite a few pounds you can lose and you might need to put on some weight to if you have been drinking for a long time not sure that was my case good luck

Hi,I had jaundice after many years of drinking, had a mri scan and they found 2 stones stuck in my bile duct affecting my Liver.in the end I had my gallbladder removed(full of stones).its good that you have stopped drinking like me,I had my Liver checked out and they said it was very fatty and not to drink so much.i don't drink at all now, downside was I lost a stone in weight but am starting to put it on now.you r so young to be diagnosed but I see the same things in young people binge drinking they don't realise what damage they are doing I didn't either but I do now and am determined to live longer like you.keep the faith you will get a lot of help on here.
