Another worry . . .

Hi guys, I need your much valued advise and experience ☺

Just has smear test results 'abnormal' I have 'high risk HPV' . After doing some research I have learned that some strands are harmless and some strands are pre cancerous. Been asked to go for coloscapy and being recalled in June. I am worried 😢 😢

Could this be linked with decompensated liver? I've had 3 bugs since October cos of low immune etc.

Any help, advise replies really welcome.

Thanks 🌼

Hi mellow1, sorry about your smear result. I can be 99.9% certain its nothing to do with liver. HPV is a sexually transmitted virus of the wart family. They are not visible like genital warts. But flat, and they damage the cervical cells. As you say some are more aggressive than others, HPV, 16 and 18 I think are the bad ones.

The good news is you've caught it. That's the reason for having smears, to get these things at treatable stage. The colcoscopy is where they use a strong camera microscope type thing to look closely at the cervix, then they can treat then by removing the offending cells. Using loop diathermy, they can do cone biopsy or other similar procedures depending on the depth of visual damage. They send that to histology to be sure they have caught all the cells.

I hope that helps, try not to worry. At least you are in the system to get it sorted.

Take care

Thanks for replying E. Sorry, I didn't make myself clear, I am to have colcosapy in a couple of weeks before a recall, repeat smear in June.

How on earth can things like this happen?!? I've had the same partner for years and likewise with him 👫!

Fingers crossed 👧

Hope you are well 🌼

I don't know the answer to that. But I do know men don't have symptoms so I suppose could have it for years. Also it may be something that can lie dormant, which may give credence to your thoughts on low immunity, maybe it's been lingering and only now become damaging. I'm just making that up. Just conjecture, but it sounds plausible. You could ask when you get colcoscopy, they will know how the virus acts.

Good luck with it. Be strong, it'd just another hurdle to get over!!

Hi...had this happen to me.....abnormal smear then colposcopy.Be aware at colposcopy they may take a biopsy. They did when I had mine. And if they do...its a 6 WEEK wait for results.I presume you would get results faster if anything found. I was also told high risk HPV.....but result came back and all was fine. Jos cervical cancer trust v useful with a helpline...not just for cancer but any cervical abnormal results......
