Can you drink alcohol with pbc?
Hi, does anyone know : Can you drink... - British Liver Trust
Hi, does anyone know
absolutely not! if you have have this condition you must treat your liver as best you can with diet etc. alcohol will cause further damage and speed up the PBC
Thanks, that's what I thought, thanks again
What Ralph said: no alcohol! PBC is usually manageable when caught and treated early, and that includes eliminating alcohol and cleaning up your diet and lifestyle. Eat real, nutritious foods -no processed junk, lots of fresh veggies, low sugar, exercise regularly - be good to your body. Have your vitamin D level checked and supplement as needed to get it in the mid to upper part of the normal range. Take your Urso. Get good sleep. Take care and best of luck. 😊
My consultant said it was fine to drink alcohol! He said to continue my life as normal just stay on Urso!
Hope everyone has good health and a great new year!
Alcohol is neither the cause or will effect PBC.
It's like everything,in moderation and occasionally it will be fine.
Taking Urso is the most important thing.
Ps the above is quoted from top Hepatologist and expert in PBC.
ALcohol will not affect your PBC, but if your liver is damaged then the liver will have to work much harder to get rid of the toxins from alcohol.
Mind you, one of the leading PBC charities have a conference each year with lots of people who suffer from PBC and the alcohol well and truly flows at these events!
beware of these answers saying it wont affect the Liver, it WILL. just the other month a drinker had enzymes through the roof and was diagnosed with PBC, the alcohol was stopped and they came back down very fast. with bile ducts having issues this will have a knock on affect.
