Blessed with the Gift of a new Liver....

Hullo there.

Sunday afternoon we got the call..they thought they had a viable liver and could we get there right away.

I was absolutely stunned. I can't believe it happened..and here I am, four days later, writing on my iPad, from the transplant high dependency unit, a step down from the ITU.

I still cannot believe that it happened..that I survived, and that I'm sitting up in a chair!

They say say everything looks great thus far..

I just wanted to share our joy with you all. I've only been on the list for three months officially, and I have a rare blood type.

Does it hurt? Yes, like I've been hit by a bus....but everyday is getting better,I think.

Thanks so all of you for all the wonderful support, information and kindness, since I joined the group...

Especially to Scotty! My partner in crime, Mr. X for being a walking encyclopedia! Lololol and all of you..

I'll look back here as a I can, I still get very tired quickly

Brilliant!!

That is totally fantastic news!

Very happy for you. (Made me happy too! So thanks for that!)

Keep your chin up and I'll keep everything I have crossed for you.

Cheers!

Thanks Mr. X !

The doctors nurses, all the staff have been just incredible...so attentive. In ITU there were two specialists in the room at all times.

The one thing I'm most impressed with is how good they have been to my partner...so kind to him, explaining everyine...personally, I think that care is equally important to the medical care!

Cheering you on!

I'm very pleased the staff were good with dealing with your partner and it's good that you mentioned it for others who read this. I know when I was initially diagnosed that was the thing that bothered me the most - inflicting this thing on her - so I know I'd appreciate it and be impressed if they understood how important that was to the patient.

More importantly as it's been a week I imagine you're gallivanting about feeling fabulous :) If not, pull your finger out and get on with it :)

Hope you're still feeling better and still recovering and getting stronger - and I hope you're making plans for your future and how to make the most of it.

Any plans to visit the states? I used to live in the NW.

Cheers.

Hi there Mister X!

Yes, I am out of bed, walking unassisted to the loo, and a wee bit in the corridors. I want to be doing more, but it seems the ascites is back, so that's hard. They also are still trying to get my pain uder control which is horrible due to the return of the ascites on top of the major surgery. But all in all. All is well. Lol.

The NW? Nice. I am an east coast kind of girl. The farthest west I've lived is Michigan.

Thx for all the kind words and thoughts!

So I read "and a wee bit in the corridors" and before it processed thought they had an area set aside in case you just need a pee. Which I thought odd but potentially useful!

sad reflection on how my brain works - I blame the drugs.

If you get bored there are loads of radio comedies and things on the BBC radio player - they're often pretty good too.

Hang on in there.

Congratulations! Wow it has been just a few days and you're typing from your iPad. Impressed! I had my transplant in May. I was unconscious for 4 days. I remember waking up pretty confused and I didn't have my phone for at least another 3 days. My transplant was urgent as I went through acute liver failure suddenly.

ITU are brilliant. I'm not sure which hospital you are in but I was in QE Birmingham and gosh I love them. In fact tomorrow I am going into ITU follow up clinic to discuss my journey!

Good luck and keep on recovering and being happy :)

Amazing. Fab news. A true gift of life. Recommend everyone watches Channel 5 "gift of Life" series currently on UK tv and then signs up everyone they can to the organ and/or tissue donor register.

Dearest Kimberley,

This is absolutely brilliant news! Congratulations!

I kept the phone away from my husband (following all ops) as he had a tendency to want to call the police due to his ITU psychosis (kept seeing things)... So its wonderful seeing that you are able to send messages :)

I am so thrilled for you!

Lots and lots of love,

Pear

Hi there everyone. Well today was not my day. Terrible pain, and now I have a fever, so they gave me antibiotics, took blood, and a urine sample...ill have an ultra sound around 9am, and see the liver team again. Please pray for us, or send thoughts, but especially for my darling Tony who is exhausted... My poor wonderful, wonderful. Partner. He's at the end of his rope, contacting everyone one, updating, here all day...sighs. Such a great partner, I am a lucky girl.

Hope you're feeling a bit better, Kimberly. You've had a huge, complicated operation that its probably normal to have a few problems in the days following surgery. I don't post much here as I'm now on a forum specifically for AIH but I have followed posts here and you've always been positive in your comments, so carry on being positive for yourself! Hope you don't have to wait too long before you have some good news. xx
