Hi,
Anyone got information on the effectiveness of Probiotics in preventing hepatic encephalopathy
This report in the American Journal of Gastroenterology ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/227... says in its results that, quote: "Lactulose and probiotics are effective for secondary prophylaxis of HE in patients with cirrhosis"
Lactulose and Rifaximin (an anti biotic specifically aimed at the gut which helps reduce ammonia by products that increase H.E.) are the 2 things I have been given - mind you I have days when logic flys out of the window, and confusion replaces it!! But medics say to me I promise you you would be much worse without these 2 in your war chest! good luck
Good Afternoon,
Some studies show that probiotics can help prevent HE from developing. Probiotics work by changing the micro biology within your gut providing more ‘good’ bacteria can help. However, there is not enough evidence to suggest that these alone can work as a treatment for HE.
Kind Regards
Sandy
