My mum was 62 when she had hers last year. I'm sure they removed the age limit just as long as tests prove u are physically healthy enough to survive the op

I certainly hope not! My consultant has told me that eventually I will need a transplant but aren't ill enough to go on the list. I'm 62 in 3 months. If you're reasonably fit and don't have other health complications that would increase the risks of major surgery the you shouldn't be excluded. After all, 60 is the new 40 lol. Regards Phil

I think if you are generally healthy and no underlying problems then I think you will be in line for consideration

People as old as 70 have had successful liver transplants.

I would support observations above. I had a transplant when I was almost 64 - discharged two days before my birthday. Best of luck.

Hi Angse,

The transplant guidelines contain no specific age limit and people in their seventies have received a transplant but, as I understand it, at the point of transplant you have to have a reasonable prospect of living at least five years ( assuming the transplant is a success) and, of course, you need to be considered physically robust enough to survive what is obviously an extremely serious and major operation.

I am a couple of years older than you and like Phil who has already responded to your query I would not like to think there was no chance in my case of receiving a transplant if that was my only chance of survival

Thank you for your reply, it was just that I heard it somewhere and it got to me really although I had serious GI bleed last Feb losing 4 pints blood, I have no outward signs of what I went through, I am lucky as although cirroshis well established I remain healthy, regular endoscopy, scans I did not want to think there was no hope, as like everyone else trying g to do best I can and live, thanks again angse
