yes indeed it is a symptom of liver disease. I was advised to use aquos cream to wash and moisture the skin, and general antihistamine for hayfever might also help. otherwise the has been some posts on alternative therapies, which did n of use as the itching did ease once my LFT bloods were better. I understand it is a treble symptom to cope with and kept me up during he night. good luck hope it gets better

Hey Bevlinden, sorry to hear your pain, I have been exactly the same, terrible itching in the past few days, do you have any other symptoms, have you been diagnoised? Hope you feel better soon.

I'm so so sorry. Yes, this is a terrible symptom, I know. It is due to the buildup of Bilirubin that your liver can't process. Acqeous cream may help, and if not it will keep you from tearing skin. Also diprobase cream if you can find it. Piriton (chlorphenamine) may help and Questran (cholestyramine). Have you been prescribed drugs for the itching? If so, do they help at all?

One thing I found helped was to keep my skin cool. I used a fan to blow air onto the skin. Scratching makes it worse, but I know you can't help it. Try to avoid foods high in fat, as this also makes the itch worse.

There is a bath treatment called Aveeno anti-itch colloidal oats which could also help (it can be bought online).

I hope that this gets better!!

Hugs!

My itching is subsiding and along with my weight, I've lost 5lb in ten days, as I've got 3 stone to get off I'm seeing this through! I make sure I eat my 5 a day, specially greens .

I had this itch all over my body. Ask your doctor for atarax it's work grate I hardly itch with them but the itch is under your skin it's nothing like a normal itch, u can't scratch it away it won't work. I have no nails and I tore my legs to bits with scratching. So ask for atarax. Good luck
