Negative Thoughts Vs Negative Splits πŸ€”

I went to bed last night with the intention of running 5k this morning!

I was fully hydrated and tech all charged up and kit ready !

I woke at around 05:40 and decided I would go and make a cup of tea !

Had a glass of water while the kettle was boiling and fed Misty the cat ! (Yesterday she decided on a takeaway for breakfast) 🀣

It was of course still dark so I took my tea back to bed ! ...... Big mistake !

The Gremlins loved this opportunity to fill my head with negative thoughts !

It's still dark , why don't you go back to sleep ! ..... It's Saturday , you can rest today and run tomorrow !

You need 2 days rest after your work !

I battled these negative thoughts untill around 06:30 when I said to myself no !

You are all set up to run , go and do a negative split 5K !

So that is whaf I did .

Out of the door around 06:55

It was quite warm so had on just a light running vest and light shorts and set off on my warm up walk .

I even had a shower on my warm up walk !!!

A neighbor has a sprinkler in the front garden on a timer and it overshoots the hedge so I did my warm up walk through this cooling shower 😁

Got to the end of the road, turned around, watch started and off we go back towards the sprinkler 😁

A nice steady pace for my first K as I wanted to make sure I could increase as the run progressed.

It's a fairly flat first section and it came out at 8:01

On to the 2nd k and a slight downhill , letting the pace increase slightly but not letting it run away on the slope .

This 2nd k came out at 7:49

So far so good !

I'm settled into the run now and feeling good , no more negative thoughts !

Around the corner and onto the hill up to the church , this for me is often a tricky section to maintain pace but I was feeling ok and this section came out at 7:39.

The next kilometer is down, flat and then up hill , again tricky to maintain pace .

My watch buzzes to tell me 4K done and my split was 7:28 ... So far so good !

The last K was also undulating but I usually manage to pick my pace up quite easily here , possibly because I know it the home stretch !

Watch buzzes at 5K and the split was 7:07

So success! Negative thoughts banished, and negative splits achieved 😁

Back home , stretches done , and more tea drank 😁

Breakfast and a shower to follow !

Happy running ! 😁

Ooh well done, Ian! What a fab run. Maybe I don’t want to know what Misty’s takeaway was, but I enjoyed your write up! What a positive way to start your day with negative splits πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸ˜‰

Thanks Jools πŸ˜πŸ‘Yes misty had left half her takeaway on the kitchen floor next to her bowls , I guess she wanted to save it for later but I decided to bin it 😁

Yes the run was good , worth getting up for 😁

Nice going! Perhaps it wasn’t gremlins, perhaps it was some nice extra prep time! I only get negative splits by accident so am envious! Well done πŸ‘

Thank you Yes, extra prep time , I like that 😁

, I occasionally get negative splits by accident but for 5k or longer I really have to concentrate 😁

I love the thought of your shower half way through the run πŸšΏπŸ˜‚ How fab would that be on a hot day?

Well done on the splits πŸ‘

Haha , yes could have done with the sprinkler a week or 2 ago 😁

I did once get caught in the middle of a sprinkler when I was on holiday and I didn’t see it until I felt it. Bit of a shock that was 😲

To be honest , this was a bit of a surprise ! I saw the wet pavement and assumed there was a water leak 🀣

Well done...those are brilliant negative splits πŸ‘As you've done 5k today I wonder if you can upload it to the Vitality Running World Cup as they're doing a Guinness Book World Record attempt today for the most virtual 5ks in a day. πŸ‘

Also...love your comment about Misty, my Bailey occasionally does the same, never considered it a take-away πŸ˜†

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10β€’ in reply toRun46

Hmm.... Maybe it would count but the website says over 5k .And yes Misty is partial to a couple of takeaways in a week 😐

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toInstructor57

I think it would, my email says to go a little over 5k just coz if it registers as less ie you think you did 5 and it says 4.99 then it won't be counted so as yours is 5.01 it should be perfect.David just replied to me that he did his at Parkrun, and that if your tracker won't link up you can manually send the details πŸ™‚

I also know the "why don't you go back to bed it's too early" gremlin. Maybe there are two of them.

Well done Ian! The amount of times I’ve thought the same thing, especially oh I can always do it tomorrow. Bad gremlins. I like the sound of the sprinkler - it was fairly muggy today, well, where I am anyway. Another great run with great splits! 😁

The sprinkler was nice 😬

Shame it had finished as I ran along the same road at the end of my run 😁

Good morning Instructor57. Well done you. I know EXACTLY what you talk about with negative gremlins! Misty the cat with a takeaway "a garden bird by any chance"? πŸ€”πŸ€A piece of advice... make sure you take your shower gel with you on the run! 🀣

I'll post my run and gremlins shortly.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10β€’ in reply toRayblade900

Yes, the Gremlins are always looking for an opportunity to spoil a run !They are relentless !

No, it was not a bird (This time) , more like a Shrew 😐 (There were a few clues left 😐)

I'll remember to put shower gel in my running belt πŸ˜πŸ‘
