I heard this on the radio this morning and it rang a few bells with me. Worth a listen if you use tracking apps such as Strava.

Great programme. There are positives and negatives in apps. I don't have segments turned on on my watch. I don't care whilst I'm out and only mildly interested when I get back.

I've already fallen foul of pushing too hard to see the numbers increase but it can also be motivating too. I use Strava more as a blog now to almost celebrate each run. 👍😁

That’s a great approach. I like Strava as it motivates me, but I do find I need to remind myself to slow up on a slow run and ignore the segments. Hard to do though!

I don't look at where the start/stop is on them. I know vaguely where some are and sometimes if I've got extra to give I'll try a bit harder but I'd rather have a longer run or a faster overall run.

Had a read and will play the sound file tomorrow.

Obviously there’s a lot of useful stuff in our stats when training, used correctly Strava and the rest are a wonderful tool. I’m aware that some people get too into chasing segment times and running hard every run... and sadly these are often end in “Strava injuries” which is a little unfair to Strava if you ask me, they’ve helped thousands of runners for every one that their stats helped injure. I have that addictive competitive side to me, so I don’t use the app... I’d be one of those idiots for sure! I think all of these apps tracking PBs and best miles etc need to code in a warning screen... “you ran a PB last run, so take it easy today” or similar.

I agree. It’s great for motivation and stats but those wretched segments get me every time. I don’t necessarily run faster on them every time but I’m definitely aware of them!
