Went for my tamoxifen review yesterday, started badly as I could have been seen at the hospital where I had my surgery which is ten minutes away from home instead of going into the centre of Bristol. However he gave me the options I was expecting, stay on tamoxifen, change to another tablet, he was going in the direction of Letrozole, or stop, like all of us I've dreamt of the day I ring family and friends and saying I'm off my tablets but over the last week or so they've become my comfort blanket and I'm not ready to let go of them yet, so I'm staying as I am, if I change my mind I need to visit GP who will issue a prescription for Letrozole

Hi jennymary. I have been on tamoxifen for just under 3 years. I went for my review towards the end of last year. My consultant informed me that as my blood test showed i had nearly gone through the menopause i could change my tablet. He asked if i was still having periods. Told the consultant that i had a coil. He suggested that i had it removed so that when i had my next visit and hadnt had a period for 12 months he would change it for something else for 12 months. I am hoping that the hot sweats may stop. I would rather take something that may prevent it returning. Hope this helps a little x
Hi JennyMary, There are 3 or 4 different medications like tamoxifen and different people get on with them very differently. What I've learnt is that if one does not suit you, ask to try another to find the one that is best for you. Sometimes a particular brand works really well for you, whereas other makes of the same medication have greater side effects. Demand choice from the medics to find the best medication and the best brand for you. xx
