Hello Izzy and welcome. Six weeks post mastectomy, how are you doing? Do you need radiotherapy too?

Everyone is very good at sharing top tips and supporting each other so let us know if we can help or just listen.

Hi I am also new to this site, what type of cancer have you got? ER Her2? Etc.

I had mastectomy last year with reconstruction with implant, mine is ER+ so I am on letrozole, surgery went really well for me, and I am very happy with implant. I didn't need any other treatment luckily as nodes were clear.

I have changed my lifestyle and diet to try to help myself fell like I am doing something positive, more exercise, plant based diet mainly, no dairy and I must say I feel a lot better for eating like that.

Did they find your DCIS on a mammogram?

They couldn't see mine on the mammogram! Ultrasound found it, I found a lump which turned out to be harmless, then they looked on ultrasound and saw another lump which after biopsy turned out cancer!

My first bc 6 years ago was found by mamo. This one is DCIS, also found by mamo, eight months after finishing my five years of treatment for first bc. I finished taking Exemestane last September 2015.

Hello Debs.

I am newly diagnosed - this site site is so kind and informative.

Can I ask what your reconstruction is like? My surgeon has scared me by saying he would take the required flesh from my stomach or thigh.

Also, are you 'equal'? I have large breasts and he says he'll have to take about 30% despite me having 6 weeks of Letrozole to shrink the tumour. My GP, on the other hand, says because I am well past the menopause the Letrozole won't be effective because I won't have any oestrogen anyway.

I would really like to read your experience.

Cheers

Ann xx

Hi Ann,

Welcome I am new to this group also.

I am not too big in the boob department 36C so implant for me was perfect, as I don't have much tummy fat anyway. They had to remove nipple as my cancer was just under the nipple, but I am wearing a bikini top now, and you really can't tell the difference in my boobs.

I remember him saying before my op that he was hopeful there would be enough skin after removing the nipple to avoid a pump up first before the proper implant, and I was lucky he could put the implant straight in.

Same happened to me Debs! I found a lump which was harmless and mamo was clear. They did an ultrasound and found another lump that hadn't shown on mamo which was cancer!

Keep hearing from people that mammogram didn't find their cancer, which is really scary, I don't have any faith in them now, due for my check up 3rd August inc mammogram, I am hoping they will do ultra sound as well.

I had my 1st mamo since diagnosis recently which came back clear. I see surgeon today so will ask him about ultrasound. He did agree to me having an ultrasound before mastectomy as I said if it showed anything it would be easier to do a double when I had the op. It was all clear then and that was only in October. Will let you know his response, but it is worrying. What the nurse did say when doing mamo was that since it's the second one, they have a comparison.

Hi and welcome. Hope you are recovering well. You will find this site very useful whether you want to let off steam or get some advice from others in the same boat. You can talk about problems you might have that you wouldn't want to discuss with family or friends xx

Sorry I've not been back for a while. I'm doing ok at present. I still have nerve pain, but it's getting easier over time. I am now booked in to have a second mastectomy next month (October). At least it will be all done this year. Then I can hopefully get my life back on track next year. I hope all you ladies are keeping well. Many thanks for your kind replies xxx

Hi Izzy, I am Alison and originally from Lancs. Seems you have had a rough ride. I am 4 months post op, total auxiliary clearance and radiotherapy. Generally ok but the whole prospect still scares me
