Morning all,

i stopped taking my pill back in February, had a one day bleed in march, then had a period from the 15th-19th April.

I am now 3 days late, what does this mean?

Hi There,

If you stopped the pill in order to be pregnant and you have been having unprotected sex since stopping the pill, you need to do a pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant, particularly as your period is late. If it's negative wait a few days and repeat,if it's still negative and you are concerned go and have a chat with your GP.

Best Wishes

Hi There,

When stopping the pill, the contraceptive effects do wear off within 2 days. As soon as you stop taking the pills the suppression of the hormones that cause ovulation stops. Your body now has to start hormone production of its own and it can take some time to get back into the rhythm of production. Remember, your regular monthly period is usually the result of ovulation, not the reverse. The first bleed you had will have been as a result of the pill hormone levels dropping. Did you stop the pill to become pregnant? If you did then keep trying. If you do not plan to be pregnant you should not rely on not having periods meaning you can't become pregnant. If you continue to worry do seek GP help, as stress and worry can also affect menstrual cycles.

Best Wishes

Jules

yes, i stopped in order to conceive. before the pill my periods where regular, are you saying that i'm not late they are just irregular now due to coming off the pill?

as it stands now based on my last period i'm 11 days late, I've taken a test and it had a very faint positive, upon taking a second test it was a negative. the first was taken first thing in the morning the second was taken really late at night?

trying not to get my hopes up yet. going to do another test in a few days in the morning. fingers crossed x

It is best to take a pregnancy test using your first wee in the morning due to the pregnancy hormones in your urine being best at that time.
