I'm so sad

Hi guys. I posted before about my pregnancy tests and symptoms, unfortunately I was stuck in the hospital all day yesterday. They done blood tests and poked and prodded me before telling me I had more than likely lost a baby early on in pregnancy as my hcg was really low. We weren't trying for a baby and were shocked to have a positive test as I'm on the POP pill and used extra protection when needed. Although it was a surprise I'm devastated to have lost a baby. They called it a silent miscarriage which I have never heard of and They've given me codeine for the pain which is helping. We weren't planning on having anymore children as we're happy with 3 but very much of the attitude never say never as we are both young (26&27), I'm confused as I still feel the same but devastated that I'm no longer pregnant. I don't know if I'm looking for advice or just someone to relate to or what... Any replies will be appreciated x

Hi Sayjay,

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Even if you weren't aware you were pregnant, a miscarriage can be really tough and it can bring up all kinds of feelings you didn't know you had. It's completely understandable, and you are not alone. It might help to have a look at some of the information on the Miscarriage Association website. They have lots of helpful advice: miscarriageassociation.org.uk/

I hope this helps. The main thing I would say is there isn't one set way you are supposed to feel, so if you are feeling devastated that is completely ok. Just because you weren't planning a pregnancy doesn't mean a miscarriage should be a relief. Rest, take care of yourself, and if you have a friend or family member you can call and have a chat to that might help.

Best wishes,

Katherine

Hi Katherine, thank you for the link I'll be sure to check it out. I do have a very close family but only my mum, sister and husband know about this. My husband has been really supportive but I know he's sad too. He's worried as well as I already have depression which we've only just got a handle on and he's concerned this is going to make it worse again. When I lost a baby a few years ago it triggered my depression then so understand his thoughts. I just feel so tired emotionally and physically right now

Hi Sayjay,

It's good that your husband is being supportive, even though this must also be a tough time for him. Hopefully your mum and sister might be able to help too. If you are really struggling, it might be worth speaking to your GP, especially as you already suffer from depression. They can talk through how you are feeling and see if there is anything they can do to help. It's obviously not a magic fix, but is worth a try.

Best wishes,

Katherine
