Hi there,

If you are taking the pill as needed, every day, then it is a very effective method of contraception and it is unlikely you would fall pregnant. However, if you miss pills it does become less effective and you would then need to use a barrier method, such as condoms, for the rest of that cycle to prevent pregnancy. If you have been taking your pills regularly there is probably nothing to worry about, but if your period is late you should take a pregnancy test.

There is more information about the pill on the NHS website here which might be of use to you: nhs.uk/conditions/contracep...

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Katherine

Hi,

I have responded in your other post but just in case will reply here too.

Plan B is a type of emergency contraception that is available in America, and needs to be taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. If you live in the UK, there are other types of emergency contraception but again you have to take these within a certain time frame after having sex to prevent pregnancy. We have a guide to emergency contraception here, but if you had unprotected sex more than 5 days ago, emergency contraception would not suitable:

The only way to find out if you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test, and if your period is 1 week late you should take a test sooner rather than later. If you are very nervous about taking the test, perhaps you could take the test with a friend or a partner? You could also go to a sexual health / contraceptive clinic or your GPs where they can give you a test and, if you are pregnant, discuss your options with you.

I hope this helps. I know you must be very worried but if your period is late the best thing to do is take a test as that is the only way to know for certain. This information from the NHS about taking a test might be of use:

Best wishes,

Katherine

Yes you can get pregnant on the pill. IT has a 99 percent rate and some pills lower. The only way not to get pregnant is to not have sex. Sorry but that is a fact. God bless and may the peace of God be with you!
