I don't want to make light of a colonoscopy--but the only "discomfort" is the cleansing you must perform yourself before going to the OR. But make sure you have an experienced surgeon. You are totally put under--so no pain. Of course if you pay out of your own pocket---there is plenty of pain THERE.---Eric

Hi Eric, I'm new to this forum and have been reading other peoples experiences and treatments. I have spotted your post which is giving me all sorts of thoughts. I have Diverticulitis, which has totally destroyed my life! I get maybe a week to 10dys whereby I'm able to do things about the house, have visitors etc but then, without warning, I start to take flushes, sweat literally running off my face, throat and neck. it feels as though I've a very high temp, but I don't. The queasiness then starts, an it's pretty much ALL downhill after that! I vomit and vomit. even after there's nothing left in my stomach. That's when it gets very painful as I'm just wretching and nothing coming up except the green bile and then blood!

It's normally anything from 3-6 days before I start to feel better...until the next time!

I have gone from a size 14 to a 6-8 in just over 10mths. My doc has passed remarks on this but he knows I take Panic Attacks(not connected) I had the barium meal camera, but took one in the middle of it and they had to stop. He wants me to have a colonoscopy but says they WON'T knock me out for it!! I would gladly sell my soul to the hospital or clinic who would!!! I know I couldn't lie for 45mins while they to do it! I live in N.Ireland and am wondering now if there's any hospital here that would?

Is there anyone else on here that have been put under for it? I'm so depressed by it all and am wondering just how much longer I can suffer this. I would gladly pay for a scan or whatever non-intrusive way to find out if I have polyps. I have noticed that when I'm eating or just afterwards, I take sweats and pass a lot of wind. This is very embarrassing if I'm out anywhere. Apologies for the length of this post!

I’ve had a colonoscopy 4 times in the past 2-3 years and I can assure you that it doesn’t hurt at all, however the bowl prep might cause a bit of discomfort. To have a successful colonoscopy you must follow your doctors instructions and take the prep properly, because an unclean bowl can lead to difficulties during the procedure (the doctor might not be able to see what’s going on in the bowl, because of stool that hasn’t been cleaned out)

For myself I’ve noticed that changing my diet a day or two before the colonoscopy really helps, so I don’t eat the foods that I’m not allowed to have a day before the colonoscopy and when it’s time to take the prep everything gets cleaned out easily.

Good luck and I wish you the best !
