Interstim to help control bowel incontinence.

It has been one week since the final implant of my Medtronic Interstim to aid my bladder/bowel problems. I am almost afraid to believe that it has been working - but I have not had once incontinence issue of the bowel since the implant was placed. And the retention problem with the bladder has improved. This is not a minor happening in my life. Also, it seems to be helping in the other area of total constipation. Yes, I have that issue also - could not "go" without taking a variety of medications and yet would have the "slippage" unexpectedly - Not a fun discussion at all, but I am finding out others also have to try and deal with these issues. Appreciate any experience out there with the InterStim and suggestions what has helped others with these health concerns. Just in the beginning stages of learning how to control the sensations sent to the sacral nerves.

HI rdhckh, I have just your post and found your mentioning Medtronic interstrim so. Eryminteresting..I did not know anything about this, and although I,am thankfully a fairly fit lady of 81... I had a prolapsed bowel repair about three years ago followed,by a hernia. Repair where they went in by keyhole.

NOw it is happening again, just,as,badly but ha embeen too scared to go back to,dr as I didn't think they would do,anything..but I wonder if,this item could help me. I also, have IBS and chronic constipation even with prescriptions, fluid exercises and walking a lot each day. And the sphincter is naturally reasonably slack after all these problems, I don't leak but should an op cause looseness then I,would have a problem which is alarming as I live In my own flat in a communial block for over 55 so mix a lot with residents.

I am really going to back to dr like I know I should and will mention this interstrim to see if she thinks this might help if she refers me back to a consultant, which I know she will

Thank you for your post and maybe others might have interesting comments as well......
