Hello I am newly diagnosed with osteoporosis and also have osteoarthritis in some joints, I'm waiting for a dentist checkup before I start medication and I'm going to go to an osteoporosis clinic at some point, I was just wondering what sort of exercise and diet is a good idea, I do do dance classes and walk a bit every day but keen to do as much as possible thank you

Hi

Weight bearing exercise is recommended so your dancing and walking is great. I would check out the ROS website for dietary tips and also information on exercise. If you can get sufficient calcium from your diet that is the best form but I also supplement calcium, vit D3 and K2, magnesium and omega 3.

Hi ,,ROS have a lot of information about diet and exercise ,when you join they send a booklet and a regular magazine. Their website is very informative. For me I used the ROS calculator for calcium ,to check I was including enough in my diet, depending on what drugs you will be starting you should also be advised about Vitamin D. I make my own kefir which has Vit K .

Others on this forum take further additions and minerals which they find helpful and I am sure people will add on to my reply.

My GP and Fracture prevention clinic said to carry on doing the things I do and enjoy but be mindful of how you do them. So smaller loads, not twisting the spine, and not doing setups and roll downs.

I try and walk every day a few miles ,I do pilates with a teacher who gives me adaptions weekly,I garden for my job(hoping to keep going with it).

Goodwick and tru and find your way through the info everywhere some helpful and some not . Use the ROS ad a guide. It helped me .

All the best

Hi Spaniel12, ditto the previous replies about weights and weight bearing. That is what my GP and Physiotherapist advised me to carry on doing, also alongside Reformer Pilates. I am on a high dose of VitD & Calcium, seeing Rheumatologist in February, I have Osteoporosis of the femoral neck.
