Liquid/soluble Alendronate

I had a bad experience taking alendronic acid tablets - throat issues/spasms. I'm wondering if taking AA in liquid form would help as I didn't have any other side effects. Has anyone else taken AA this way?

I expect to start on the dispersible version of AA on saturday. Not looking forward to it but will let you know how it goes. I requested this version as I have difficulty swallowing tablets and I also have acid reflux.

Thanks, that would be really helpful. I developed silent reflux (which the GP thought could have been brought on by the AA tablets) and then got throat spasms. She switched me to Risedronate but the tablets look quite big so I am worried they might irritate my throat too so I haven't started yet. Then I saw that you can get soluble AA but I don't know much about it.

Hi Gingertea. I take the effervescent form, Binosto. The tablet dissolves in half a glass of water. I find it needs a gentle stir to make sure all the teeny bits have completely dissolved, then you have more water after. It sounds strange but I usually have a few mouthfuls of water before taking it, let that settle and then take the AA solution. One occasion I didn't do that and had real discomfort for several minutes as though my stomach just wasn't prepared for all that liquid! I usually rinse my mouth and lips after too. All the best.

Hi Gingertea3 suffer from reflux and sometimes silent reflux, like you and others have difficulty swallowing tablets. I too am waiting to see a rheumatologist for injections for osteoporosis. My GP prescribed omeprazole effervescent tablets and they are much better than tablets you have to swallow.

hi Gingertea3. I take Alendronic acid in soluble tablet form, Binosto. I drink it then have another glass of water and sit upright or walk around for half an hour afterwards. After half an hour I have a biscuit or snack, otherwise I feel nauseous. I’ve been taking binosto for 3 years with no ill effects.
