I would simply like to know why in my region - Grampian NHS, Scotland - waiting time for a DEXA scan runs into years.
I hoped to finally be seen after a long break (3 years +) - an acute spinal incident made me extra anxious. I persuaded a GP to refer me (that took time ...) only to be told that the waiting time is eight (8 ) months.
We are not talking surgery etc here - just 15 minutes or so for a scan.

I saw a Rheumatologist privately in the beginning and had a DEXA scan within 2 weeks. Automatically the NHS calls me every 2 years for an update scan. Very efficient. I definately think the private fee was worth it just to get on the "ladder" now under NHS.
