Hi, I am needing to try a different type of knee pillow for side sleeping.
For the past nine months I have been unable to move off my side and have tried countless pillows and have not found one that does not end up higher up than it should!!
I have even tried homemade versions ( stuffed and sewn by my husband’s relentless efforts to get something that really works)
Would welcome anyone’s experience and hopefully a solution.
I am of very slim build and very short owing to height loss.
Looking for something that is not hard in any way ( I bruise very easily)
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help xx

I’ve got one of the shaped wedges you can buy all over the place but it’s fairly hard and probably wouldn’t suit you.
If I don’t use that I also use a small IKEA down filled cushion which is squashy and and can be pummelled into a size that would maybe suit you.
Failing that I have a couple of little foam filled pillows I sometimes use for Pilates. They are only 1” thick, have a jersey knitted cover and are soft, perhaps you could join a couple together to get the height you want.
Thank you, yes I was wondering if there were any of the wedges around that would be softer but they do seem to be hard ( at lest the ones I have tried)
Never thought to look at Pilates though and just taking a look at what you sent there could be something of use to put my foot on as I have bed sores on the side of the foot.
This will sound odd, but it might help you brainstorm. Consider using velcro to hold any pillow you use in place. You could cover the pillow itself with the soft velcro material. Then you could wear a knee cover with the sticky/grabbing material.
You could alternately make a pillow in two stacking layers, a thinly padded layer to go under your knees that lays on the bed, but attached (sewed at the edge of it) is a thick layer that would slip between the knees. Your body weight bearing down on the lower layer would hold the assembly in place.
I have had to sleep on my left side since my spinal fractures and barely move all night - apart from my feet and left arm! I am very slim and I need a pillow between my knees otherwise it hurts my hips (and my bony knees rub together!) After much trial and error, I have found one of the circular, padded garden/kitchen type cushions are perfect. They are soft and like a buttoned seat pad but stitched instead, so no hard buttons to press into the skin. They are very plump and tend to stay in place. After six months or so they can start to flatten a little but they can be bought very cheaply and when I get a new one, our cat has the old one! The horrible thing about sleeping on one side for so long has meant the left side of my face below my eye has formed a big wrinkly pouch - most becoming - not...🙄I hope you find something that works.😘
Thank you, I know exactly the type of cushion you mean and would not have thought to try one!!
I am on my left side too and since the last 4 fractures can’t move or I go into spasm😩
I understand completely what you are saying about your face. These are things that we would never have had to think about before having fractures.
I have one of the pillows on order with the hole cut out for the ear, my ear is squashed and the hole for my piercing has disappeared into the fold.
The Cartilage is all crusty and have just had to have antibiotics for an ear infection ( was told it could have been caused by sleeping on it all the time)
One of the other many problems is that the bone and toes on the side of my left foot have bed sores. They are not open but it is a real task trying to prevent that from happening.
How lovely it would be to be able to climb on and off the bed and toss and turn all night!!! xx
