Has anyone else experienced episodes of vertigo? I read a study that said osteoporosis patients are more likely to suffer incidents of vertigo. I suffer terribly with it.

I have, but only after I started on Alendronic acid, not before. It only triggered when I lay down or got up leaving a residual dizziness which passed after a while After about eight weeks it has diminished considerably and only tends to be noticeable within the 24 hours of taking the tablet. The docs suggested it was benign postural vertigo possibly triggered by a sinus infection but I hadn’t had one and on checking the side effects list see that both vertigo and dizziness are listed as common

Hi! I do occassionally but not regularly. I sometimes wake in the morning and the room is going round and round. If I lie one side it’s ok but if I turn to the other side it all spins. Do you suffer with travel sickness too. I wondered if it’s connected. I suffer terribly.

Yes, I couldn't get on boat if my life depended on it.

I can’t get on small boats but cruise ships are different. Saying that I had two times I did feel ill. One was sailingbthrough the Bay of Biscay when we had a storm. And the other time was coming up through by iItaly when we had to wait for a while for the ship to dock. I felt dreadful. The couple in the next cabin had been feeling rough too. They offered me a travel tablet which I took. I felt much better. We went out in the evening but I came back and went to bed because the tablet had made me sleepy. It wasn’t for long I felt ill. Going through the bay of Biscay was longer but once we got past it we were fine. I’ve been on a few cruises and have been fine. It’s a disturbance in the ears make you have motion sickness. It’s horrible while it lasts as is vertigo.

I don’t; however, a close family member suffers from sometimes incapacitating vertigo and we have learned that the Epley Manuever helps him a lot. It’s a physical therapy move. You can search on YouTube for “Bob and Brad Epley Manuever”. Bob and Brad are physical therapists and they have made several tutorials on the Epley Manuever and how to perform it.

Thanks , have been doing the manuevers for years. Unfortunately they no longer work for me.

Hello.

Yes, I suffer from positional vertigo ( thankfully it’s not often now).

Like Mavary, I’m okay if I lie on my left, but I dare not turn over to my right. I have to be careful not to lie flat at places like the dentist!

In the past, it has taken days, if not weeks, to go back to normal. I had a parathyroidectomy a few years back (discovered the problem had caused my osteoporosis 🤦‍♀️) and, whilst the operation was fine, I had the worst ever vertigo from lying flat in the operating theatre! 😳

When I first experienced it, it was the scariest feeling ever… I still dread it!

Yes, I also suffered with travel sickness all my life, really, although that has improved over the last few years.

I’m not sure that people who have not experienced it really understand.

I hope that has helped; I’m sorry to hear you have it badly and hope you find a way through it,

Fran 😉

Thanks. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to see if they can provide me with more effective meds. I have a very physical job and can't work while I have vertigo.

My travel sickness has got worse since I lost my Husband. We used to be out somewhere every day. After he died my Sons take me out on the odd occasion. One tok me out yesterday and I was really sick on the way home. It was horrible. He took me out a while ago and I did manage to control it till I got home. Then I was violently sick. It’s really horrible and I wish I wasn’t like it but what can you do? I drive myself and am ok.

My Son was very understanding when I was sick coming home from a sixteen mile journey. I’ve said I don’t ever want to travel at night again. It’s happened twice when I’ve travelled in the dark.

Have you tried the bands that you wear on your wrists? I know people think that it’s all in the mind, but if it works, so what? They help me a lot.

I do sympathise, because I know how horrible it can be.

Good luck!

Fran 😉

I have suffered from vertigo and also have osteoporosis. The first episode happened several years ago and I went to my functional medicine doctor, he gave me exercises to do that targeted the calcium crystals in the inner ear. I did them and it did go away. I also cut down my calcium intake. There is also a homeopathic medicine (WellMind Vertigo Tablets) you can take that helps lessen the effect of the vertigo.

Then I had a second episode some years after that. I have a Scoliosis as well and it had worsened. Turns out the second episode was a result of nerves and muscles connected to the inner ear affected by my scoliosis. My massage therapist was able to trigger an episode just by deep tissue work in my neck. I am now free of all severe vertigo episodes. I am doing daily cervical traction for 15 minutes as a preventative treatment.

My main treatment for osteoporosis is the Marodyne vibration platform. It has improved my scores. But it also strengthens the muscles and helps the immune system by draining the lymphatic system. So it also helps my scoliosis. I would never take any drugs for osteoporosis and stopped all calcium pills when I learned they increase the risk of a stroke. I get my calcium in a balanced diet with only a small amount of dairy. Too much dairy is associated with broken bones. My scores are better, not worse. 🤗

Glad you are doing so well. As a vegan, I'm morally opposed to eating dairy so have to take calcium. I didn't know that supplements are linked to strokes. I will have to research that further.

Do you also take Calcium with D3 and VitK? D3 directs Calcium to the bones.

You need good nutritional advice from a qualified practitioner and have your VitD levels tested.

I tend not to eat much dairy, avoid milk but love cheese, yogurt and kefir but there are lots of other foods which are high in Calcium other than dairy.

There are plenty of ways to get calcium in vegetables. Almond milk, coconut milk, collards, dandelion greens etc. Dairy is not the main source for me. I suspect the calcium 💊 contribute to vertigo. Vitamin D3 is more important.

You do know that Google is designed to only bring up allopathic medicine. I use Quant.

Acupunture alongside Acupressure tabs really work well whenever I have nasal drip, sea-sickness (ONLY on cruise ships, small yachts no probs) AND vertigo.
