Has anybody else experienced aches and pains when taking a combined bone tablet which includes d3 magnesium and calcium. Before starting these I was ok. Thinking of changing to organic to see if this helps

Hi Twistandshout

I found when I took combined, or even separate Ca and Mg oxide, they upset my guts, but I’ve never associated aches and pains with them.

All I can suggest is stop taking them and see if the pains stop.

I now prefer to buy separate supplements. They are much better in my opinion. At least you can add each new one with several days in between, so it’s easier to pin point which if any, don’t agree with you.

You also have more control over how much of each you take, which allows you to take dietary intake into consideration.

Ca is best obtained from diet and if you eat dairy, especially yogurt, you may already be getting sufficient Ca. Supplementary Ca should only be taken to make up a short fall, to reach the RDA of 1000 to 1200mg a day.

The amount of vit D3 you need will depend on your blood level. If you are deficient, the quantity of D3 in a combined supplement, is unlikely to be sufficient. I took 5000 IU of D3 to reach an optimal level of 150 nmol/L.

Combined supplements sometimes contain Mg oxide, which gave me diarrhoea and gut pains. Whereas easy absorption Mg glycinate doesn’t.

Best wishes
