Hi was put on amlodipine 5mg.

I took first one at night. Didn't sleep at all also racing mind. Changed to taking on Morning side effects even worse dizziness shortness of breath panic attack. Felt very unstable on feet, I stopped them. I have decided to try and sort out my BP with diet and exercise. I have started taking Kwai blood pressure tablets from Holland and barret. But Im also considering getting Hawthorn Berry tablets. Just wondering if anyone on here has used them. My highest blood pressure was 155/115 early September. My BP this morning 126/91

Thanks sorry if I went on a bit

congrats Terenceh on getting to 126.

Your doc would have probably recommended the diet and exercise route , and that’s definitely the way to go if you can. Get lots of info about this from the website of Blood Pressure UK.

I remember when my bp was first diagnosed I did take hawthorn but nothing seemed to happen so I stopped. Saying that, i had a firm diagnosis, went the diet-and-lifestyle route plus another pill from H&B (which I can’t even remember) and nothing brought the bp down except prescribed medication but in those days no-one had bp machines at home so I just went to the doc yearly.

But. We are all different so if spending a few quid at H and B doesn’t do much for you, at least you’ve tried!

And you’re not going on a bit!

My blood pressure was always perfect until recently. I went to Dr's as I was getting constant headaches a cross between Migraine and Cluster headaches. Dr prescribed Amlodipine 5mg. Side affects just so bad. I realised I was eating ready meals all the time which are full of salt. Plus lots of crisps etc. I am 14st so overweight. I'm 63 so at the age to get high BP.

I'm hoping my lifestyle changes will bring it down.

Thanks again for the reply

Kind regards

we’ll done for realising. Salt is necessary for life - but just a tiny bit! I eat salt-free chips Tyrell’s which are a bit difficult to get hold of. Cooking your own food gives control.

well if Kwai blood pressure tablets work for you why bother with hawthorne.mind you cant be as bad for you as amlodipine

I'm on Losartan now as for me my original prescription of Amlodipine had so many terrible side effects I was in pain and discomfort for months before the penny dropped. However LOsartan has side effects too but just not as bad thankfully. I'm not sadly convinced that more exercise and hawthorne tablets will medically work so be careful as you go forwards. I wish I didn't have to take these tablets but I do. Without them I'm pretty sure I'd get very ill indeed. I looked into avoiding taking them but with no luck. Be careful. Every BP tablet has nasty side effects for so many people as you can see on countless forums including this one. The drug companies seem to accept this as do GP's. However if you have High Blood pressure there's no real choice. I do hope it works out well for you. All the very best.

hi Terenceh, I have used hawthorn tea and it seemed to work well at reducing my bp but I had to drink it every day and at least 3 cups.

I have read on various ’natural’ sites that Hawthorn is good. Ditto a couple of walnuts a day as well as water melon. Ditto thinking beautiful thoughts and deep breathing using abdomen and sniffing oil of lavender . I figured that they probably cannot do any harm. Certainly being calm def does lower it at the time.

Yes I love lavender too

Apparently if you put it on soles of feet or nape of neck it gets into your system quicker

Kudos for such an improvimprovement. There are good suggestions of which I might add a few: hibiscus tea, yes to hawthorn, beetroot or beet juice, potassium, and lots of exercise. Intermitant eating schedule is also a plus for me.
