I got to thinking..

After reading a post on another site, it made me think about the reasons I am glad I stopped smoking. I'm sure lots of you can add to this:

I feel better despite COPD

I don't feel like a social pariah any more

I don't run my life around the next cigarette opportunity.

I don't smell bad

I now save £200 per month

I don't cough anymore

I can smell and taste things more than I could

I love not smoking more than I ever loved doing it (I never thought I would say that)

Mostly, I have done the biggest thing for my health

Well done you,I agree wholeheartedly with the above.

I too used to be a dependant.and after 12 years of being a non smoker,I feel physically sick when I get a whiff of a fag.disgusting habit.

If I had continued to puff away, doubt I would be here now.

Giving up is the one best single thing you can do when you have copd.and taking up excercise is the 2nd best.

Good luck Lynne.

A positive thought, lynne. How nice not to have to smoke in the rain, which I have seen. And you have your self respect back, not always looking over your shoulder for the next fag stop. Really well done.

Leaving out the health issues (which we know to well!) How on earth do they afford it?? A friend of mine spends $20 per day,on her fags,I pointed out,she could have a leg of lamb to roast every day,for the same price! She told me,she would be sick of lamb then!! Pity she is not sick of the smokes!!

Yes,I thank God,I saw the light,I could not afford to anyway, would feel to guilty for one thing.

However,to each his own,& it is a democracy,2 world wars for it!!

Lynne it can be a bit harder to lose the weight,as your metabolism slows, when not smoking, but it can be done!!

Once we stop its hard putting a good reason for smoking even when gasping for a smoke and all the reasons for never having started have me wonder what took so long doing the best thing for myself Ive ever done.

It's just over 5 weeks since my last smoke and now, even the thought of having a cigarette makes me gasp for air.

One more for the list will have the family on my back should thoughts of cigarettes come into what remains of my addled mind a quiet life stays away from temptation.

Hi Lynne it's not been that long for me but I consider myself a non smoker, gave up last year.

So I know how difficult it is - well done.

Chris

Some may wish to add small details the important message is clear and I should not want anything I have written to take away from all that really needed to be said a wonderful blog should we ever be tempted into doing the wrong thing for our condition.
