I have been using this site now for approx 4 months now. What i cant understand is why members new & old withhold their area code.I.m sure it would be beneficial to all members to know when answering Blogs/questions where the correspondent lives.some of us could possibly meet up,if we knew who was suffering in our own areas.Just an idea.take care all x

I did put my details in but when I click on 'show me whose near' I just get a blank screen. So, I live in South Staffordshire.

Hi Sandra. I'm in Perton

Lynne

In an ideal world it would be safe to share that information but if you have been reading the blogs for 4 months you may have an idea why people don't share those details. The internet is not always a safe place to share such details. Its a shame I admit as often it would be good to catch up with people in the same area.

I find the local breathe easy meeting a good place to catch up with others also diagnosed with a lung condition. People come to our breathe easy meeting from around a 35 mile radius.

Do you attend a local breathe easy group? You can check if one is in your area from BLF pages:

If anyone's nearby and wants to meet up for a coffee I'll be more than happy to join in :) Just send me a private message.

I live in Bradford, would love to hear more from you, Marytaz x

I have only just joined but find it a bit off putting that people dont use theyre christian name when chatting, Surely that would make it seem friendlier and not pose any internet security problems. Just a thought. best wishes Sally

Oh not far from me then, have been going to the Freeman hospital for my PR :)

You could include your own pedantic if you want to, then people can contact you if they want to, or message you or say hi come and join our breathe easy.

mine is there for all to see.I have attended a breathe easy meeting.problem i have is that i work part-time & can not attend if work falls on breathe easy days.x

in reply to pedantic

Did you include your post code so people can search for you? Shame about the breathe easy days being on your work day. Another thing you might consider is arranging to meet breathe easy members for coffee on your non working days. I'm sure several members would be happy to. That can work well for those wanting to catch up outside breathe easy. :)

I am in Cardiff, love Lorraine x

in reply to loda

Cardiff! One of my favourite cities - go there a lot with work

I am just ultra sensitive and aware when anyone asks any member for personal details, a post code ID would indeed identify someones more precise location. Hope you can understand the need for caution in these things.

If you'd said on the other hand any one in the Tyne and Wear location that wouldn't have caused so much concern.

Hi pedantic

You might want to check out AgeUK cautions on social networking - Chapter 8 here:

ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-G...

Hope this explains some of my responses to you in this blog.

Its good to be aware of these things.

hi pedantic, i cant see the problem saying where you live, if i say i live in wolverhampton you still wouldnt be able to find me its a big place !! And if i arranged to meet someone it would be somewhere neutral in public so you still wouldnt know where i live, so dont worry about it , its a good idea sandra

thanks sandra.my thoughts too

trying to help you pedantic (and others) to stay safe on-line.

Not sure why you cannot appreciate this need for caution.

Hi pedantic, waves from over the border in scotland :0))

Zoee too much protocol can take away the friendliness of this site. We cant all be perfect, but all in the same boat so lets smile and be friends.

ingrid.

Hi, im Sally and from Cornwall, no breathe easy group near me so would love chat to anyone in Cornwall who understands living with COPD. Im new to this group too and think its nice to get to know PEOPLE not computer ids, much rather know names and where people are from, some responses to my (and other peoples) questions have, to be honest ,put me off a bit. Hoping to get to know everyone better

There's a clue in my 'screen name' as to my real name, but my screen name is also a mixture of my own name and that of my partner.

Can anyone guess what my name is ?

I'm from the South Wales Valleys, as lovely as it is here i'm a tad jealous I'm not in New York like you maureenjjj!

I think it is a marvelous idea pedantic and if you want to join in do, if you don't don't. Good advice from Zoee about staying safe so let's not judge each other and be too 'pc' about it all. Surely we all have enough on our plate without adding to it unnecessarily.

I think the idea of the original thread (it seems to have been lost) is excellent! I live in NW Kent and would love to meet up with anyone from this area or SE London. I can't attend the two local Breathe Easy groups as they are both held when I am working. In fact I wondered if there is a need to start an evening group in this area. Regarding the security issue. I work within security and we are all regularly warned about giving out our personal details on a popular social network site (can I name it?) because of being traced .... I don't understand the technical aspect of blogs and network sites but as adults surely we should all be responsible for giving out or with holding as much information as we want to. Perhaps the because of the nature of this site gaining admittance to it needs to be tightened (I don't know how) so we continue to feel safe when giving away personal information. Regarding spelling and grammar - I teach my students that it is rude to correct anyone's written work unless in class or unless it's asked for !! ha ha. If anyone is interested in meeting up for a coffee or feels the need to set up a group in BR8/ NW Kent/ Kent - SE London please contact me. My profile is second on the right, under the pink elephant, holding the umbrella - ha ha - sorry, sorry sorry !!!!) xxxxx

I'm in Hastings, East Sussex and it seems there is no Breathe Easy group locally. Anyone else nearby interested? Please message me if so, seems the safest way.

terri-rose in reply to robevanz

Hi robevanz, I love Hastings!! Aren't you lucky to live there? I camp there several times a year (can I still do that now I have copd?) was there in June and July. You know the big site on the top of the cliff (not the cafe side) ? What I shame I don't live closer ( I am about 50 miles North) I am looking for a group in this area that I can attend in the evening. Good luck with your group. Terri -rose

Nice to hear someone else loves the town, I thought it was like heaven when I came down from the midlands years ago and liked it so much I stayed. I know the site you mean and have passed by it most times we have been out to Fairlight and the Firehills. I was a lot fitter for those hikes! Make the most of life I'd say to you. Hope you can find a group also where you are now.

I think it's a wonderful idea and I'm sure we all know about security and how to protect and stay safe using the internet and sites like this one.

I live in Cheshire and have only recently been diagnosed, I do believe there is a Breath Easy group about 8miles away, held once a month so I'm hoping to attend in the future.

Hi im adding my 2 cents. Im Bev and I live in Torquay. But thats all the information I will share on that. Its easy to trace people these days with the internet etc. I would need to know someone personally before I would give out any more details. Better to be safe than sorry!
