First words from London and South.

Thank you for reading my blog! I thought I might get that in there first as this is my first time blogging and it’s all very exciting.

My name’s Bethany and I am the Development Officer (DO) for Breathe Easy groups in London. These are patient led support groups that offer people the opportunity to share their experiences in a friendly and supportive environment, while getting information and education about a variety of health related issues and other services available in the local area.

As part of my job I help set up new groups and work with their committees so that they can get ready to launch as self-sufficient groups. However the majority of my work is with established groups, helping them to boost membership and publicise their meetings and activities, supporting them in their local campaigns, and helping them to raise money and put on events. In short, I’m a general dogsbody and help out wherever I’m needed!

I am a part of the London and South team, working with Ashley Green (Support and Development Manager), Clair Evans (Development Manager), Claire Battye (Development Officer for the East of England) and Jo Rowlands (Development Officer for the South East) and Laura Knaier (Regional Administrator – London and South).

As well as looking after Breathe Easy we try to look at additional ways that we can support people affected by lung disease across the region. At the moment, for example, we’re developing a support package for those patients who sit on meetings with healthcare professionals to discuss local services, as well as exploring ways of reaching out to minority ethnic groups.

If you have any questions or feedback about the work we do, or if you’d like to get involved then please do get in touch.
