Still breathing

Ex smoker (2 years quit) ex pulmonary embolism. Breathing poor but spirometry OK.

What I want to know is: if you have embolism with infarction does that mean you have lost a percentage of lung function? If yes then why don't they tell you how much? Anyone know?

Can't help you with that bronchobob, your pulmonary consultant would be the best person to ask about that as results of any scans xrays will be on your records specific to you..

Many thanks for that Bkin. It's been a while since and the consultant has retired. Scans were done. I guess I will have to try and have them dug out. I think this stuff is interesting though - infarction - death of tissue - capacity reduction. I work in care and have seen a lot of compromised lung people - it doesn't scare me any more. I'm in there with them. :)

I’m not sure about lungs, but I have infarctions on my kidneys and they can tell by looking how much of my kidneys is affected. However the function is worked out differently!

Lol...that’s probably no help at all! But like Bkin said, maybe you can find out from your doctor?

Yup. It makes sense. If I find out I'll post. 👍

Good luck, bronchobob. Hope you manage to track down what you are after. Could your GP help?

Still nothing. But respiratory nurse reckons my lungs sound fine. She thinks shortness of breath when doing certain things is possibly due to nasal drip. Now doing nasal sprays and antihistamines. Must say I'm feeling less cloggy. My home spirometer is all over the place. I don't trust it. 🙃
