Has anyone who has had a chest drain removed experienced air escaping out of the wound when you cough?

Personally I would ring 111 for advice. From memory and it as been a long time since I have seen a chest drain removed an air tight dressing is placed over the site until wound healing occurs. Have you tried ringing the place were the drain was removed for advice?

Yes, just got into car, giggling in delight when leaving hospital, busted stitches on wound - straight back to ward for another stitch up. If you are out of hospital, I would definitely suggest calling ward to get advice of best route to sort out a.s.a.p. best wishes for a fix x

Hi BusNut 🚌😊,

I did have chest drains removed and I remember they would not take the stitches out for a while. It is not uncommon for this to happen apparently. I think you should ring whoever out the stitches in. It will need looking at quickly. I hope it turns out okay. Take care.

After my LVRS I had a drain in for 4 days . When removed it was stitched altho when I coughed the wound would expand which was a strange feeling . I suggest you ring where you had the drain put in just to be on the safe side .

Best wishes Babs ❤

Thank you for replying Babs it was very useful,. My other half has just had his LVRS so he has a long road ahead of him, we’ve just got to take it one day at a time but at times it seems quite daunting, but we’ll get there,

I live in the states and have never heard of a lung drain. When my lungs would get full of mucus, I would have a bronchoscopy. A tube is inserted thru the month and into the lungs to suction the mucus out.

What is reason for a lung drain? Beth

Sorry, after re reading the question, it has to do with a chest drain, not a lung drain.

Hi Beth1949, a chest drain was inserted following a Lung Volume Reduction surgery.
