Clamp for carers.

Free hospital parking to end for NHS staff in England, government says in all but “certain circumstances” once the coronavirus pandemic begins to ease, the government has said. The health secretary, Matt Hancock, announced on 25 March that the government would cover the costs of car parking for NHS staff who he said were “going above and beyond every day” at hospitals in England.

But the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has said the free parking will continue only for “key patient groups and NHS staff in certain circumstances” as the pandemic eases, although no further timeline has been given.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has said to reintroduce charges while the virus is still being fought would be “a rebuff to the immense efforts of staff across the country and the sacrifices they have made to keep others safe”.

Morning! Yet again a load of promises our Government made showing they backed the NHS (All be it a list of feeble blah, blah, blah!). Then our buddie -not- "The Matt" had no embarrassment to announce a U-turn regarding free parking for NHS Staff. Truely unbelievable. 😡😡👎👎. 🐿🌈

Shame, especially with Autumn/Winter on the horizon and the NHS under pressure again. Xx

Yesterday it was a slap in the face of care workers and now NHS staff. What hypocrisy to stand and clap. The whole bunch are a disgrace.

Well it just shows yet again what an empty promise looks like. Doctors will continue to be forced to do insane hours, nurses will never get a decent pay rise, and carers will be stuck on minimum wage as will other key workers. What a bunch of hypocrites!

I’ve signed a petition about this

Right now, the government are trying to remove free parking at hospitals for NHS heroes. We should be rewarding NHS staff, not taking rights away. Please sign the petition demanding that the government keep free parking for NHS staff: tinyurl.com/y7n5cjak

I have just signed it as well. The war against the virus (the Gov words) has resulted in the NHS staff being used as cannon fodder, with the lack of proper PPE during the peak of infections. Too many NHS staff have sacrificed their lives, and family life.

Hope more people sign. I sent it to 12 friends and only 1 signed! Hospital parking is expensive and a large proportion of wages are spent on it. Very unfair given the low wages of many staff. I don’t think the NHS benefit either as the car parks are run by private companies.

Take care

This is true as far as I know, the NHS doesn't gain any financial benefit from the carparks as these are run by private companies for their own profit.

Whilst I agree NHS staff and support staff deserve free parking and a massive salary rise my concern is, if they fill out hospital car parks, where do the patients park? A prime example is St George’s in London. Their car park is packed all day. The only hope of getting a place to park is waiting for somebody to leave. Staff cars would be parked all day so these slots wouldn’t become available. It’s a hard one. Joy.

It shouldn’t make a difference to the number of cars in the car park unless you think more staff would come in cars if the parking was free and I’m not sure that would happen? I always find it hard to park too even with a blue badge.

Yes, I think more would drive if parking was free. It would cost a fortune to park for 12 hours+. Joy.

Just spoke to my daughter who travels by car to her hospital as her journey is not on a public transport route and she told me most hospitals have separate car park areas for staff so it wouldn’t make a difference to patient parking.

Only one main car park at St George’s.

2greys I'm afraid I'm playing catch-up today but am I correct in thinking, that the Government have decided to let all NHS Staff park without charge? I'm watching the BBC1 Coronovirus Up-Date, so maybe I will hear, its just thay you normally have your finger on the pulse. 🐿🌈

Boris said in parliament yesterday that it is free and will be free for patients in the future. BUT he was not very convincing, as if he did not really know, stuttering and stammering as he usually does when flustered. So I cannot be certain, what is going on, I would not trust anything that man says anyway especially when he stammers and lost for words.
