Steroids could do more harm than good for coronavirus.

Steroids should be avoided in the treatment of the current novel coronavirus, experts have advised. A commentary article published in The Lancet concludes that, based on evidence from previous outbreaks of similar types of infection such as SARS, steroids provide little benefit to patients and could do more harm than good. They say that clinicians should still administer the treatment for conditions such as asthma and other inflammatory diseases.

Whilst we are okay at the moment, should the virus become very widespread, then we are going to have a bit of a dilemma. Do we take Prednisolone, with our rescue packs, or not?

That is very worrying maybe we need to talk to our respiratory team at the hospital to clarify.

Morning Hun, Yes, it is going to be a Huge Dilemma if that is the case, doesn't bear thinking about. I am now on "Quality of Life" long term Pred, I certainly don't feel a Quality of Life. So the Spread of this almost Pandemic Virus is Spreading very Quickly, I said to Hubby, One way of Reducing the Over Populated World, it happens every couple of Hundred years, like, The Black Plague, Swine Flue, Red Flue, Aids, Sars, I may have missed some out! I shall carry on with the Devils Tic Tacs and Hopefully This Coronavirus will eliminate itself. ? xxxx C.

You raise an interesting list of "plagues" and pandemics,Hacienda. I share your pessimism about QoL readings and their inevitable appearance in medical trial questionnaires. Love your reference to the Devil's Tic Tacs as an euphemism for prednisolone habituation. On a wider theoretical reading of evolutionary determinism and population reduction, you could be very right about this observation. Is the corona virus an instance of this happening? Probably.

I have no choice 2greys, I'm on 5mg a day long term for another condition (Vasculitis). :-O

I did find that intravenous Vitamin C helped me with breathing when I had suspected swine flu. Trouble was the benefit didn't last more than a couple of days.

Google New Zealand swine flu Vitamin C for a Current Affair program on it.

Thank you 2greys for this information.

Thank you but dilemma indeed. To be honest and a bit glum, I’m not sure how survivable corona virus is if you have pre-existing conditions and immunity problems. So I’m going to keep washing my hands, using the tube and ignoring the zeitgeist.
