Depending on the severity of your emphysema then yes, it is available on prescription by the NHS. I have been taking it since diagnosis, which was with severe Emphysema 3 1/2 years ago. I do believe that you can get it prescribed when at the moderate stage. I cannot really vouch as to its effectiveness due to many factors, but there is no way that I will attempt to stop taking it, just to find out.

Hi I believe there is only 2 types of Spiriva. Spiriva 18 (usually just called Spiriva) which is 18 micro gram, inhalation powder, hard capsules delivered in a handihaler. I have been using this for many many years on prescription from the NHS. The other is Spiriva Respimat which is the same medication but is delivered as a slow moving mist. They are both long-acting bronchodilators. Both are available on prescription via the NHS. Hope this helps Barbs x

Definitely I’m on Spiriva and Symbicort and without them I don’t think I could live my life because I wouldn’t be able to breath. I would explain to your GP how much it helped you and ask for a prescription. Barbs x

I have the Respimat version of Spiriva. It was prescribed by the doctor and I get it on the NHS.

Yes I had spirits its was good for me to but it was changed to braltus but that didn't do the job so I've ended up on other inhalers due to to many infections
