What is LVRS? I'm trying to make a list of these abbreviations to build up my knowledge. It's obviously an important date for you and whatever you will be having done I hope it goes well.

Sorry, should've said. Its lung volume reduction surgery. 😊

Wheezy, please don't go next Wednesday as it will only be the 15th and even for LVRS i don't believe you will need 7 days pre op prep.Joking aside me and Scruff's wish you the very best of success with the procedure and a gentle and full recovery with nicely reconditioned lungs to make your life much happier. xx

I to am waiting for LRVS at the Brompton so I understand your 'scarey excitement" I have been waiting a few months now and not sure if I should chase them up or not.Which hospital will you be in ? How long did you have to wait after they agreed to you having the surgery ? xx

I'm going into Papworth. Once it was decided to go ahead with surgery, it only took a few weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Please don't be scared . Take it as getting your life back . I had LVRS in October 2018 and I wished I'd had it done sooner . Just do as they tell you but a positive outlook really helps your recovery . I'm now 72 and because of my positivity my recovery was very quick

I had mine done at RBH in London . Good luck and keep us informed .

Best wishes Babs xx

Thank you my darling and I do hope you are doing well . I'm not too good at the moment as I'm still waiting to go back to my previous medication. They changed my meds to Trekegy Ellipta and I'm afraid I can't take it it does nothing for me so unfortunately I have become very very breathless . Have an appt. for my COPD review so will see what they have to say . You keep well and sending you much love .

Thank you Babs, So Sorry to hear this. I am still on my Steroid Inhalers and now on Long Term maintenance Dose of Prednisolone x2 each Morning. I hope they get the correct inhaler for you, but when changing it's Trial & Error to find the right one that works for you. I had a long time with Very bad Breathlessness, but now I seem to be levelled out, I still have my Oxygen 16 hours, though some days 24/7. Some days are Bad some days are Good, We are all the same. Right now I am back at my Exercise Classes and I feel much better for them, waiting to be called back to Rehab. We plod on, but at Least we are Plodding on and planning each Day as it comes. Take care Dear Babs. Lots of Love. C. XXX

Hi Hacienda

As you say, "we plod on!" I take a steroid inhaler but it doesn't work as well as it used to, so what else is new? I'm also stuck on 50mg of pred per day which has thank goodness made a difference, not sure if I'm close to the max...

Love your posts keep them coming

Hi Babs I went for my yes or no for LVRS it’s no as the left lung is dead no activity at all the doctor said it was very rare for the disease just to attack one lung maybe 2 or 3 in a 1.000 he said the right lung was relatively healthy, shame but never mind this site and ones like yourself really do help others with your experience. Thanks and best wishes to all. Sam x

Alfiebax2 profile image
Alfiebax2 in reply to Samjeff

Oh Sam I'm so disappointed for you but hey you have a good right lung ....for now . Such a shame I was hoping you were going to get sorted but I don't know you are rare with your condition . I wish you all the best and keep fighting .

Much love Babs xx

Alfiebax2 profile image
Alfiebax2 in reply to Samjeff

Oh yes I've been off oxygen for best part of 6 months now although the way I am at the moment because of change of medication I wish I was back on it ....but I'm sure when they sort my meds out I will be back on track .🤞 Take care of yourself .

Love Babs

Comino2 profile image
Comino2 in reply to Alfiebax2

Hi,

Were you on oxygen 24/7 before your operation ? xx

Wheezylady profile image
Wheezylady in reply to Comino2

Not at all. It seems weird, because I read other peoples' stories on here and sometimes I feel like a bit of a fake. I'm actually otherwise a very fit, healthy person. I'm just very short of breath most of the time and my mobility is limited because of this, as with any COPD. Very frustrating but I rarely get infections and have no heart or BP issues. I think I'm just lucky that my emphysema is very localised, which is the main criteria for being a good surgical candidate.

No just ambulatory although at the end my breathing was becoming increasingly short so they advised me to turn it down to pulse whilst sitting down , that was ok except for the fffft fffft fffft noise lol

Take care .

Love to all .xxxxx

I am on pulse for ambulatory and I just wondered if I still would be after surgery xx

I was told to use my oxygen directly after surgery for however long I felt I needed it but I only used it for a week .

Good Luck for the LVRS surgery on the 22nd.I wondered what made you decide to go ahead as you said you said your only symptom was breathlessness.Have you been able to walk okay.I ask because I have been delaying my operation for over 2 years as I am still fairly mobile albeit tight chested a lot of the time .All the Best Mike

Wheezylady profile image
Wheezylady in reply to mikebaker1949

Yes, I'm mobile enough. I'm unable to climb any further than the first floor in our house. I dont need nebulizer any more ( I used to use them all the time before I got a good copd consultant). I was also permanently on steroids. So many steroids, I had Cushings syndrome and cataracts. And all for nothing. I was getting desperate and so asked to be referred to Addenbrookes. Long story short - my consultant did some thorough tests and nobody was more surprised than me when I was told I was very suitable for the surgery. Bad emphysema, but very localised to upper portions of both lungs. So i jumped at the chance. I long to feel human again. Yes, i understand that in 5 years' time i may be back in the same position, but that's 5 potentially more active years. I'd rather have that now, at the age of 63, than keep putting it off.

I'm aware that there are many people out there who are sicker than me by far - and they probably dont meet the criteria for surgery. But I'm grasping the chance of a better few years for myself and my family.

If i were you, i wouldn't put it off. Life's too bloody short. I'll be on here after surgery and will be very honest about my experience.

I wish you well. Xxx

Hi there guys. Had my lung reduction 3 days ago and feeling pretty bad at the mo met, but hoping this will improve. Problem is they want to send me home in 2 days but my sats aren't maintaining. Has anybody had this issue post OP and how was it resolved. Thanks. Xxx

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply to Wheezylady

Hello Wheezylady . How low are your sats? 😑 I'm sorry I don't know much about your surgery, but I know others do. Perhaps making a new post would be better as it is likely to attract more notice than continuing this thread. I hope you feel better soon. xx 🍀
