But lots of friends gained here. Maybe not the same as people we used to know who drifted away because we're not fun enough, or we're too much hard work and effort. I often wonder how I can care so much about people I've never met. I genuinely do find myself thinking about friends from here, wondering how various people are, or how their appointment went, or how their dog is. Some people say online friendships aren't real, but I would disagree with that.
There’s no doubt in my mind that some online friends are real and quite often can result in marriage. But care is needed to avoid being taken for a ride. 😉

I am quite paranoid about scams and viruses and that kind of thing. I think mostly here there aren’t too many scams, and I tend not to click on links in the posts that advertise cheap locker storage space in Singapore anyway 😄 But yes you do have to be cautious.

I enjoyed reading that Don and remember the hard frosts and cold winter days. Now it’s mild and wet then cold and back to wet again. It’s the cold winds that get to Pete.

I love roasted horse chestnuts , always have done from a small girl. Oohh, I can smell them roasting on an open fire and with the heat coming out to warm me up ....... I'm in heaven!!!🐿
Germany used to have some lovely markets with roasted chestnuts on little braziers, they put into paper bags which Im sure helped them to taste nicer x
I remember the excitement of running outside to watch the lamplighter light our street gas lamps! I remember too the very fragile mantle shades for our gas lamps in the house. Happy days. 😀
Running as fast as my 7 year old legs could get me to the shop in the High St to stand on tiptoe peering over the counter to ask for a mantle shade then racing back, climbing 4 landings to the room at the top waiting for my granny to fit it. Well worth it when the gas was lit! By today’s standards we sound poor but we were in fact rich with things that mattered. 😀
Not everything is better now, is it? We certainly got our exercise in those days, no car, long walk to school and messages galore. I remember taking the glass containers with acid in them, were they called accumulators? To be recharged, they went inside a wireless. Some splashed on my coat and made a hole in it, just think if I had fallen over with them, there would have been holes in me! Not a good side of the old days! Love Iris x
Omg! That was very dangerous good job you didn’t trip up! No Health and Safety then sadly but I’m glad there wasn’t as my fav things to do was climb trees and peddle like mad on my bike with no brakes . My knees were always skinned but I enjoyed picking the scabs off! Yuck I was horrible child 🧒
My memory of Jack Frost is of cycling in the winter and coming home with spokes laden with frost and a frosty beard. Later in life I worked on oil rigs in the winter offshore Norway in the Barents sea. Temperatures well below zero, up to minus 30deg C. These days it takes me all my time to cope with 4deg C .
I just cannot imagine being out in temps that low.... there again you must have had clothing that protected you against the cold ??? Some experience to have had though. 😱

We used to sing songs about Jack Frost when I was a primary school teacher and I remember dressing up one of the children as Jack Frost for the Christmas concert.
We have a great forum of friends which is a joy but I can’t help feeling sad sometimes about people we’ve known who are no longer with us or those who were quite active but have now stopped posting . I even wonder about those who haven’t posted for a while .
As for so called Online Romantic fraud there’s a new film out about it with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellan called “the Good Liar” which is apparently very good.
Well a response is better than a like in the scheme of things. 😉 I shall watch out the film you mention, thanks. There are many different levels of friendship on the forum.
Some people are happy to post a good deal about themselves and others very reluctant to do so. I suppose that must affect the level at which a friendship reaches.
Yes, dont think I breathe as well when its cold and frosty now, luckily we havent has a serious winter for some time. Remember the frost on the inside of the windows when we were young and always thought they were lovely until you touched them and your young fingers hurt x
