Just wondering

Is it normal to have night sweats after pneumonia diagnosis? I got home from hospital on Monday and feel a lot better today, cough not nearly as bad and I can walk around the house with no shortness of breath or pain. Temperature and heart rate have stayed within normal limits and I am getting a good night 's sleep apart from wakening up absolutely drenched in sweat. This has only happened since I came home, don't remember being as bad in hospital . Just a bit concerned, maybe it's something as simple as a fan and a lighter duvet? I just had a sheet over me in hospital with a light blanket.

I feel so stupid asking these simple questions but I genuinely haven't a clue and this has hit me like a ton of bricks.

Thank you Blackbird6. Was just getting bit worried as otherwise I’m feeling so much better. Good to know it’s part and parcel of the illness !

Hi! I have ongoing issues with nightsweats, despite being a family joke for always feeling chilly in daytime! Seems to be par for the course with lots of lung conditions so almost certainly part and parcel of the pneumonia. As Blackbird6 says, check with doctor or nurse if you’re at all worried. In the meantime, definitely try fan and lighter bedclothes - I find both helpful.

Good luck!

Agreed. Symptom of infection generally. Does not define an infection as being pneumonia.

Thank you Blackcat. What a lovely forum this is. Everyone so genuinely helpful. It was just the fact I otherwise feel so well that confused me. ( Doesn’t take much !).

Night sweats are common in a range of chest conditions. BTW pneumonia hits the body hard, please allow yourself 6 months to fully recover. Rest is Best!

Thank you so much for replying , yes this seems to be the general consensus that it will take a while. I had by pneumonia vaccine last year so hopefully this has helped with the severity of this episode . I feel really well this morning , and last night first night with no sweats. Co Incidentally I have finished my antibiotic so that may account in some way to that .
