I have mine usally every 5 years but that’s not set in stone THINK It’s adhoc basis if have chronic lung conditions

Why I say that is last time had adult one never worked so had to have babies one.

Two in one year

Thank you JeffAjaxSmith, I've got suspected Bronchiecasis and had pneumonia jab 2 years ago and thought I'd have another one at some point, but get different answers from different GPs...you find everyone's says different things don't you!

Usally have had blood test then doctors have seen something that warrants pneumonia jab BUT that’s mainly from lung clinic.

Think be waiting for ever with GPS as there blood test ARE standard unless looking for something specific.

I was also told ten years. Might it perhaps vary, depending on type of vaccine used?

I was told you only receive one?

I had one in 2003 and I got pneumonia twice after had a booster in 2017 it’s not as bad with the jab I was told if I hadn’t had the jab I would have been so much worse. Would advise anyone to have one with chest problems.

Thank you Patsy164, I get different answers from different GPs....(I have suspected Bronchiectasis and had one 2 years ago) I would have assumed I'd have another one at sone point. But GP thinks you only get one!

I was told as I had pneumonia twice I was high risk but the consultant decided that I needed a top up not the gp it was actually my asthma nurse who asked me to ask him. Maybe a decision for the bronch specialist.

I've only had it once when diagnosed with leaky heart valves 30 years ago. I was led to believe it was a one off jab. I will check with my doctor at next appointment.

I had the jab two years ago and it was a total game changer for me, helped me get out of the vicious circle of one bout of pneumonia after the other.

And today I've been told 'you only get the Pneumonia jab once' by a GP....then literally an hour after the nurse rang to say 'it's every 5 years!?!?'

Really does seem like it's pot luck!

Yes they all say different

Was told by nurse at the surgery you only need it done every 10 years. But had one 2 years ago had just had a spell in hospital. When I went for flu jab they said I could have an extra boost of the jab the last one was only 3 years before. But said it was always worth a boost because of my copd, said it wouldn't harm . The nurse at surgery is really good. I asked if she would get into trouble with the doctors said I make my own decisions it's my department. A nurse who stands up to doctors good for her thinking of her patients. Thank you.

I had jab some years ago when I had a flu jab, just said you should have pneumonia one (as a one off) this year when diagnosed with bronchiectasis I had another one - on instruction of consultant - I do not know how often, if ever, when the next one should be.

HI CANDIR I was told by the district nurse who visits me you only get it once, she was supposed to give me it that day then said she never had any needles as she forgot to pack them, she came back 2 weeks later to give me the pneumonia injection and flu injection at the same time but I was too unwell. a few weeks later I spoke to my gp receptionist and told her I felt fine now to receive both injections , she said you need to get flu jag then wait approx. 3 weeks before the next one . under no circumstances can you get both together so she was calling the district nurse office .regarding how often to get pneumonia jag my respiratory dr said I was to get it every year and was annoyed that I hant had it that year or year before but each time I was to get it I had chest infection. so I called my gp to arrange to get the nurse to come and give it to me the receptionist I was speaking to said you cant get it every year only every 2 years. I mentioned this to my respiratory dr who I had at the time and he said no I wasn't to get it every 2 year but every year and he was going to write to my gp and tell himto make sure I get it every year .I have to say iv still not had it but im told theyr now stsrting to give out flu jag and pneumonia jag soon so ill be booking am appointment with the district nurse to get them both at different times .everyone has different answers so maybe it just depends on what your dr or specialist thinks. this will be my first time getting these injections so im a little nervouse of any side effects they may cause . good luck I hope you get one at least every 2 year if they help. best wishes shaz

Thanks Shazrab, it's a different answer every time isn't it! I've now been told by the nurse that it's every 5 years! So looks like I'll be having anther one in 2022.

Having the pneumonia jab was a totally life saver for me! it made a huge difference to the amount of infections I was getting, so can recommend....can't comment on the flu jab however, as I haven't had one since 2013! 😯
