Normal X-ray and blood tests but still short of breath

Hello, I have been experiencing chest tightness and shortness of breath for two months now. I have had a chest X-ray and blood tests and both came back clear. I am scheduled for a CT scan next week.

On vacation a couple of weeks ago, my feeling of chest tightness and breathlessness was so bad that I went to the hospital. I was checked for pulmonary embolism (negative) and heart attack (I wasn’t having one) and sent home.

The lung doctor measured my breathing and said that I am on the low side for gas diffusion. I’m not sure what that means but, naturally, I am not worried I have some lung disease that the ct scan will reveal.

What worries me is that what started as an occasional feeling of chest tension and breathlessness has become a near constant feeling of tightness.

Any help or anyone who can weigh in with similar experiences would be very helpful!

All I can suggest is that you await next week's ct scan results. It's great that you are having one and also been offered PR.

You may or may not have lung issues but what was the occasional chest tightness that has now become almost constant may be anxiety over the upcoming CT scan. It is easy to say try not to worry until you get the results but I know that is often easier said than done. Will pray the results are good.

Good luck with your CT scan, on the good side the Xray has ruled out infections and small nodes or tumours. Best Wishes. Please let us know the outcome.

High barometric pressure affects my ability to get a deep breath. I never 'watch' the barometer, but when I begin to feel difficulty taking a deep breath and check the barometer, without fail it will read over 30.05. The knowledge of a high reading does not 'cure' my inability to take a deep breath, but it removes anxiety that I am suddenly taking a turn for worse. j.

Never thought of that. Reassurance is great. I will keep an eye on the barometer in future. Sometimes I worry that an exacerbation is coming on and next day I am fine!

Omg you could have just been writing my story, except I had two x-rays and two chest infections. Did you ever get an answer?
