I’ve got to start pulmonary rehabilitation in July,it wasn’t fully explained to me at my g.p surgery due to only limited appointment time can anyone explain to me how this works and is it beneficial and educational I’ve also got to have the pneumonia vaccine so I’m not sure about any side effects you may get from having it,the only thing i was told that it’s no more risky than my yearly flu jab,I’ve had pneumonia twice and got sepsis on one occasion with the pneumonia so if the vaccine would greatly lower the risk of getting it again I’m all for it,is the pneumonia vaccine something that everybody who has copd in its forms has to have like with the flu vaccine jab every year, forgive me if i seem not very knowledgable about copd but I’m only a few months diagnosed and welcome any help/advice available I can get...fenty.

Hi fenty,

Look the pulmonary rehabilitation is fantastic! If you are able to get to the physiotherapist!

I don't know where you live, so, l don't know how you can do it, whether you do it in your home or at the hospital, but, it is worth it most definitely!!! GO FOR IT!

pneumonia Jab? Never had one! Have had flu jab though.

Yes I’m up to try this if it’s educational as well,i knew there was a pneumonia vaccine but didn’t know that I’d need to have it,when i saw my respiratory nurse she said it was mostly given to patients from late 60s onwards but they’d been instructed by my respiratory clinic consultant dr hodgson to give it me,I asked why this was and she said it’s because my copd comes in the moderate to severe stage and patients like myself even though I’m only in my 50s are advised and put forward to have the vaccine,I’ve had pneumonia twice, once with sepsis and anything that will help prevent it is a must for me,I don’t know the full guidelines for the pneumonia vaccine but i would have thought anyone who has copd would benefit from the vaccine,if they choose not to have it then that’s the choice of the individual to have or not have it,thanks for the encouragement regarding pulmonary rehabilitation,it’s good to know there are people other than doctors that say it’s beneficial and worth considering.

Pete is signed up for the pulmonary rehab but no date yet. I’ve heard it’s very helpful if you can do it so see what happens.

I had pneumonia jab on Tuesday and my arm was a bit sore and red the next day, all fine now though. I’m glad I had it done as would never want pneumonia.

Enjoy your day. Xxxxx

Pulmonary Rehab made a real difference to me. Go for it! Exercises tailored to you and your condition, and talks about different aspects of lung problems and how to look after yourself.

I've also had the pneumonia vaccination. While it can't stop all types of pneumonia, it will stop some, and that's great news as pneumonia is a very punishing illness for people with lung problems.
