Higher oxygen flow and bladder problem

My husband (82 yrs old) has advanced COPD/emphysema and is on oxygen 24/7. He's been on 3 litre setting for the past year or so but, due to his increasing acute breathlessness and extremely low blood oxygen levels when basically he makes any sort of movement, the COPD nurse has now put him on No. 5 for when he's just sitting and sleeping, and to put it up to 7 whenever he gets out of the chair. He is now saying he wants the highest to be 6 as he says that when it's on 7 it is making him feel he is losing control of his bladder. I can understand how worrying it must be for him if he feels he's going to have an accident, but he won't listen to me when I say that he needs the extra oxygen for protection to his organs etc. Obviously we will speak to the nurse about this after the holidays, but I am wondering if it is actually the change in his oxygen usage or could it perhaps be another symptom of the progression of this awful disease, or in fact be something else? He has never had any bladder problems previously and has always been one of those men who will only spend a penny when he wants to. He won't go in advance, eg just prior to leaving on a journey, which in the past has often resulted in us driving around looking for a loo later on - he has always said he can't go on demand! Your husband worrying about having an accident is probably the cause of him wanting to go. If you get him the right sort of protection it could take that worry away. Look at the range made 'Tena for Men', Amazon have the full range next day delivery.

Thanks so much Don. I had no idea they did them for men. I’ll quietly send off for some so we are prepared should this becomes a regular issue. x

If i get badly out of breath it happens to me, i assumed it was the same for everyone and was some sort of emergency body response. Just one of the readons i really don't like the six minute walk test

It probably is the same for everyone of a certain age, they just don't like talking about it.😉
