Pulmonary Rehab, Session No 11

I thought when I started this record of my experience of the PR course that I would write it from my point of view , warts and all. As honestly as I could. I have tried to do this so far. This episode is probably going to have me come across as a proper immotional wimp , but what the hell ,here goes.

As I have said before, I nearly always feel somewhat nervous on the morning of PR, and the last 3 or 4 sessions have had me more so due to problems I am having with thick sticky mucus which seems to sit in my windpipe just around my tonsils area.

Anyway , long story short, I elected to go on the excercises bike first. I only lasted 5 mins before stopping, gasping and with a throat that felt full of muck. This messed up the rest of the session, The head Physio came across to talk me through my feelings of panic and I went on to sit ,recover and work my way through the weights. I felt so down, weak , demoralised, all trembling inside that I had a bit of a weepy session to myself. ( I have had this ruddy awfull disease now, steadily getting worse ,that occasionally it just overwhelms me. ) wrong place ,wrong time.

The boss came to my rescue , ( again) with lots of encouragement, and got me semi focussed on finishing the sessions activities.

Not my best day by a long chalk, but I've got 3 sessions to go now. And I am determined to see them through. Apparently I have to eat more before I attend the lessons, as I havnt dared eat before, so have been running on empty each session.

Back in on Friday.πŸ‘πŸ˜œ

Catch ya later.

Softy Chris x

Oh Chris, not such a great session but you will get there as you have such a lot of determination. I enjoy reading about your PR and urge you on each time.

Take care and keep going. Xxx

Sorry to hear pete is feeling down. It's understandable after what he is going through. Hopefully he will feel a little better soon. Then he won't be so depressed when he sees light at the end of the tunnel. Love to you both. Patxxx

I'm really sorry to know Pete's not doing so well. It's hard for him to cope with it all and hard for you too. You're both in my thoughts and prayers hoping for an improvement soon, and strength for you both. πŸ’

Thank you dear Kate. Xxx πŸ’–

It sounds to me like you need to spend more time on the preparation for attending the sessions. For a sick person to put themselves forward for what might be not very much for a fit person, is quite an ordeal. Turning up unprepared is not wimpish, just a bit silly maybe. I think you will find that a period of relaxation and a proper breakfast might result in more confidence and a feeling that you are ready for it. Physiotherapists can be very kind people, but they are trained on the basis of "no pain, no gain" which doesn't always work for us in a knackered state. Just my opinion. πŸ˜‰

Thanks for sharing even though it didn't go so well for you. I guess not every day can be a good day but just getting to the session is an achievement, that sounds so horribly condescending! I mean sometimes just getting out of the house can be an achievement in itself. I think I'm digging myself into a hole here and not saying what I mean πŸ™„ Anyway it's good to know you got through it and sometimes we have a weepy day and that's ok. Eating beforehand sounds a much better idea. I hope your next session goes well for you and you achieve everything you hope to.

Chris you obviously enjoy your PR courses but don't try and treat it as a boot camp where you have to excel and improve to achieve, some days will be harder than others so just take them in your stride, exercise doesn't end with PR but you can do it in a less regimented way on completion of the course and still gain the benefits without queuing to get on the equipment.

Good luck Ski's and Scruff's

What a shame that happened but the Head physio did a good job in supporting you so that you were able to continue. Be interesting to see what happens next time when you go with some food inside you. Good for you in keeping going for the rest of the session.

I always read your pr logs and love the fact that you are improving. I can relate to the fact that you don't eat before you go because I never eat breakfast as I always seem more breathless after eating. A full stomach seems to take up lung space and I like to potter and do a few little jobs to help my husband who is my carer. Keep smiling

Hello Chris. Try to keep it up. I am sure it really does help. The problem is when u stop the sessions. I think if ur not careful it is so easy to slip back and not do any exercises at all. Try not to do that as I honestly think, whether we do a lot or a little, exercise really does help. Good luck. Best wishes to uπŸ‘πŸ€“πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Well done Chris you have nearly completed the course. If you can't face a breakfast then how about some toast or those breakfast biscuits so you have a little food inside you to prevent fainting, dizziness etc.

Thanks for your mini PR blog Chris, you're reminding me of the one I did in 2013. It's lucky you have good instructors to support you, I did too.

It's not you being a wimp, it's the disease! You're doing brilliantly in just getting there for your sessions, you're no defeatist are you.

I usually have a couple of scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast at least 90 minutes before my exercise class. Protein lasts longer energy wise. (I have to take ranitidine or gavisgon too as it's Pilates, all that bending 😳).

Looking forward to your next escapade. P

Not soft at all chris, maybe a bit hungry? I don't eat until lunch-time so know how you feel but if you're calling on energy that isn't there.......? Keep up the good work - it's a lot more than I could do.
