I’ve been in bed for over a week and went to the doctors yesterday. I was diagnosed with a bad chest infection and given amoxicillin. I have taken them as I should but the pain in my chest is worsening. It’s very painfull especially when I breathe In, cough etc I feel very dizzy and weak. I’m not sure wether to allow another 24 hours for the antibiotics or pop to the walk in. Advice appreciated. Thank you.

No I don’t have a lung condition. Just assumed I had flu but my chest just felt a lot worse than before. I know people say most things are viral so I know it could take a while clear. X

Call 111 or get an emergency appointment with your gp. From what you describe you are to unwell to go to the walk in center. But i dont think you should leave it 24 hours. I hope you are feeling better soon

Snap!

You may need a stronger one Amox is pretty basic and sometimes doesn't get to the problem. I would go back and see a doctor, maybe an idea for an X-ray too if it's very painful. Pleurisy causes quite bad chest pain an in the shoulder too. Bronchitis causes bit of chest pain and short breath, if you have a high fever or very shivery it may need 14 days of something more.

You might need steroids as well to deal with it so seek urgent medical advice. x

I can only emphasise what the others have said, it may be more than a chest infection, like pluerisy or pnuemonia. Take care and don't go to walk in they will probably only give you the same as you have been taking. your Gp should deal with it as an emergency.

It sounds like you really need to seek medical attention. Hope you feel better soon.

I am going through the same thing. I took a zpak. Two pills the first day. In less than 24 hrs I noticed a difference. It’s only been 48 hrs and I feel much better. Amoxicillin just doesn’t do it for me!

Sorry last attempt failed, so here goes again !

I started with a nasty chest infection on 8th August, Dr prescribed Amoxil to start with, no result, so another anti b prescribed still no improvement. In the end had 4 different ones, but, pain and cough, and general feeling of unwell continued. Had x ray and did umpteen sputum tests. In the end was sent to see Lung Specialist, who recommended a maintenance course of antibiotics, so now taking Doxycycline just one a day, but unfortunately still no better, and up most of the night with chest and back pain. What is the answer?????????? I am also taking Carbocisteine, which supposedly loosens phlegm making it easier to get rid of ! Not nice I know, but obviously with all that gunge down in the lungs, no chance of getting better. Like you I am frustrated and feel I really need some help. I have Pulmonary Fibrosis and I know there is little that can be done to treat this condition, but suffering like this is no joke is it. I have been advised to drink plenty of water, which apparently helps with lung problems, but of course, then you are running to spend a penny every few minutes, again no joke !! I do find that a couple of Paracetemol helps the back and chest pain, especially in the night when everywhere is so quiet. Let me know how you get on, my guess is that it may mean a spell in hospital where anti b can be given straight into you via a canular - have ended up like that many times with Pneumonia. I do sympathise with you, and I really do know how you are feeling, but keep smiling (and coughing) and hopefully things will get better soon. Take care, Sylvia x

Thank you so much.

I am sorry to hear you are also unwell. I hope you get sorted soon. I will call the GP as I feel no better. Been on my antibiotics since Wednesday so maybe I should give them longer? My GP said they should start to work straight away but no improvement what’soever X

To be honest I never found amoxicillin affective. It was ok to begin with but then think because I had been on them on and off they stopped working

Speak to your doctor my doctor changed my antibiotics and i have found my infections seem to clear up a lot quicker. Amoxicillin suit some people. It's worth checking with your doctor.hope you feel better soon

The pain shouldn’t be worsening...maybe they are the right type of antibiotics for that bacteria..

Make another emergency appointment for Monday or go to A&E..

Thank you. I am still feeling unwell and my back hurts when I breathe in and out. I went back to my gp a few days ago who told me I need to continue the antibiotics and go back if I worsen.

It’s been nearly two weeks now and I’m still no better.
