Lung infection one week after starting Doxycycine.

After severe pain up inspiration, and high fever 1 week ago today I started 100mg Doxycycline. Aside from fever which is much lower now 100, and short of breath, I feel better but not good. No coughing until 7th day and very little Sputem. Today there were fresh blood streaks in Sputem one time. Have not productively coughed thru the whole week. Is this serious enough, or should I wait and see if it is still problematic. It is Sunday.. Thanks

If you are at all worried go to the doctors, it will put your mind at rest and if you do need help you will get it straight away. Please let us know how you get on. Hope you are feeling better soon and have got things sorted .😊 Bernadette xx

I would at least ring and speak to doctor about this. In our practice any hemoptysis, (coughing up blood) always results in a chest X-ray to out rule pneumonia. Hope you feel better soon. Sending hugs

Thanks Morgan, will get on the phone again today, Monday. He's aware and been my Dr. 20+ years. And I'm doing ok. Fever down, just tired and anxious to get back to doing things I love hoping for the best! Thanks again 😊

lisajawea46,

Hi the blood streaks could be due to a blood thinner, are you on anything to thin the blood? if not I've used Doxycycline and not had any side effects. Contact your GP and tell them of the blood streaks ASAP there may be more to it.

No blood thinners. Have been to med school and was a paramedic. I know this doesnt wuilify me but I know my body pretty well. Have had. Doxu many times without problems and it has always worked except for once. They used Levaquin and that took care of it. Was in hospital by then but at least know it worked in a bad situation. Thank you Keith 😊

My GP told me if it is streaked red then the blood is more than likly coming from the throat, When it is in the lung sputum it will show as dark sputum. However if you are showing no improment then it is always wise to see the GP again to check all is going in the right direction?

Be Well

Yea I had just had a round of Doxy 3 weeks before this one hit and it's much worse. Starting prednisone tomorrow so I can hopefully breathe better 😏
