The horrible breathing test.

I went to see a lung specialist a couple wks ago. He said he thinks I have acid reflux that is causing my wheezing & coughing. I told him I never get a heartburn but he said that does not matter. He gave me a script for generic Protonix to take once a day in the morning. Still wheezing but some days it is less. He also sent me for another chest xray & a breathing test. I had no idea what that would be like. I hated being in that tube type enclouser. It was very hot that day & humid then the gal closed the door & I really had a hard time getting any air. Made it much worse when she put the clamp on my nose. Guess you all have had that test by now. That was a week ago today but still have not heard anything on my tests.

Agreed , this test , and that booth ..

First time is harder then you get used to, the cabin, the pinched nose, and the air block when you still have to huff and puff or continued exhaling.. now I really try to do it right first time round if not the nurse will get me to do until I faint..

All for a good cause..

Have a good day x

Haven't yet experienced that particular torture chamber - will try to avoid. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi yes that test is not pleasant. I think they are testing for gas exchanges and the air they pump in is not what we are used to. I felt a little anxious in there too. I hate the nose peg as it is a uncomfortable. The test gets easier to do after the first one as you know what is going to happen.

You may not get your results until you see your consultant again. The Technicians are not allowed to give out test results to patients. Only the doctors can analyse and provide results

Make sure it is reflux, I was told 5 years ago I had reflux ,my symptoms were a cough and shortness of breath , was given medication for reflux, I never suffered from heartburn or indigestion, in December I was told it's not reflux ,but interstitial lung disease brought on from environment , so just double check good luck x

Thanks everyone my cough was so horible for 4 month tht it burned in my chest & way up by my shoulders too. It lasted so very long after the pneumonia. My primary care dr had a xray taken & said I have COPD. Seems impossible as I have never had even one cigarette my entire life & no weed that so many smoked. I have never even seen it. No one I know ever used. Dr said because I get Bronchitis every year that it causes COPD too. Is he correct or just goofy ? He is one of those foreign drs that we can not understand very good & he really doesnt understand ud too good either. I cant switch drs because we have Mobile Physicians from Cleveland Clinic that come to the house. I am handicapped & it is too hard to get to a office visit. I hope you all have a good day. Hugs to all
