Hi I am new to this post and would like some advice. My mum has COPD which is advanced she also had vascular dementia . She has had 3 hospital admissions in the past 6 months with exacerbations of her COPD .
She was asked to go to the assessment for an assessment for pip I took her for the assessment which was completed so I thought 3 weeks later she has another letter for another assessment. I range the dwp and was basically passed from pillor to post between the dwp and the assessment centre to the reason on why. I asked the dwp if a report had been received which hadn’t. I then rang the assessment centre to be told the assessment wasn’t a true reflection they felt and that is why they have requested another one . At this point my mum had yet again just come out of hospital to say I am angry is a true statement . I have demanded a home visit which they have granted . Has anybody else been through this before ? Any help would be appreciated . I am also putting a compliant in as I feel it as all been totally unprofessional as I had to chase things up loads of phone calls . Thanks

Welcome Debs, Yes, I agree with Sassy, You must push them, You shouldn't have to, but these days it seems you have to do their work also, and do Complain Strongly. Can you not get Your Mums GP or Hospital Consultant to write you a list of her Hospital Admissions and how ill she is. A Home Visit would be Best for your Mum. Good Luck, let us know how you get on. You should of got letter of yours mothers doctor stating to unwell and vaunrable person SO could not attend AM sure if you mother had social worker DON’t think dwp would mess them about.
i would get letter of GP stating mothers condition and vaulrabilty and send dwp
The assessment centre was given a copy of my mums condition from the gp she has many other health conditions also includeing vascular problems and being diabetic depression and anxiety . I am getting a letter of the doctor Monday. The home visit is this Wednesday

My mum at present will not have careers us has a family provide the informal care she has had a social care assessment in the past therefore does not have a social worker . My job is working with the social workers completing assessment. I feel I give enough information at her assessment to the assessor and can’t bekieve she has to have another one . As my mum is 66 she comes across ok with her dementia however they dont see how she struggles to make a drink tidy up she can’t go out in her own as confidence as gone as she gets disoriented. She won’t have a bath unless I put her in it. She looks presentable as we have her hair done by a hairdresser once a week it’s her rountine taxi picks up same driver takes her brings her home. I felt the assessor thought I was lieing or something. I felt like saying to him you come spend a week with her lol . I will keep you all informed what happens. Once again thanks for your replies.
That is appalling! I think you definitely need to complain. Nobody, especially someone with vascular dementia, and you shouldn’t have to chase up the dwp!
Well done for making a complaint. However this does not excuse their unproffessional approach. In cases of Dementia,it is possible to have help with things like PIP forms and assessments and her GP definately should be able to back the claim. Try Your local Age UK if your mum is over 50. Or the dementia site on line they may have a dementia freind or champion in your area, who can help and advise. You as a next of kin can demand a social care assessment of need on line or by telephone for your mum, which again helps with DWP. These things are never easy but you have to be persistant or they do give you the relative the run round. Having been that way myself on several occassions you have my best wish as nobody needs this hassle when someone is ill. xx
So sorry to read this my only advice is that they don't read medical evidence. Go see your MP as your mum is clearly eligible for attendance allowance at 66 she might be too old for pip.
Typical of our over-paid health add-ons, they never get the job done on time or to the satisfaction of their office ..... who the heck trains these people and don't any of them have sick family members !!!!!
Thought I’d update you all . My mum got the home visit the assessor was all apologies why it had happened she never seen it etc anyhow this week found out my mum had been given enhanced care and mobility 😀took longer enough to sort out . At least I can rest now knowing my mum has the money to pay for Carers when needed now
