I have Emphysema and COPD and I receive PIP at full rate for both care and mobility. Been on oxygen now for over 20 years. When claiming PIP it all depends on how much care and help you need and on the mobility side how far you can walk before needing to stop for a while to get breathing back under control. Hope this helps
I found that I could not do things that required bending or reaching so need help with those, also help with washing my hair and somebody to see me safely in and out of the bath due to the oxygen lead and fear of tripping. I can no longer carry shopping all these sort of things can be hard to do and can be mentioned whether you get the help to do them or not. You have to think of everything you can no longer do without a struggle.
Don't forget the "therapy" question - oxygen therapy is therapy and if your on it for 15 hours a day you should be awarded 8 points for that ' look at the points structure for that need.
You may need to say oxygen is a danger in the kitchen and if it's the case, you should get points on the basis of your nor cooking andnot being safe in the kitchen.
You should also get points in the bathroom in needing help to wash your hair and lack of stamina. Not to also mention on leaning down the pressure in your lungs mean you need help to put on your socks and lower clothes inc shoes.
In answering any questions I would suggest you say I need oxygen to ...... as I get low oxygen levels in my blood and I also get breathless. When I get breathless, i need to recover and it takes a long time do things and I cannot do them repeatedly or safely...
As regards to the mobility questions are you able to use public transport , does traffic fumes, pollen and, for example, the heat and cold affect the way you walk
