I was the youngest by a long way at my first rehab. I found people who understood what I was going through, who supported me and gave lots of encouragement (and some had a great sense of humour). Go, enjoy, and don't worry. :)

Age is not a factor - needing the help that a pulmonary rehabilitation course can give is the only qualification. Mind you, be careful how you describe what you are doing - my daughter pulled me up for saying that I going to rehab as she thought that some people might think I had an alcohol problem!

Everyone there will probably be nervous for one reason or another. If you concentrate on being normally friendly and helping the others to feel at ease you’ll soon forget your own worries. I hope you enjoy it and get a lot out of it. Good luck and happy birthday in advance! Sue

I was the youngest in my PR class last year by far at 41!

Honestly, age doesn’t come into it. The staff were great, knowledgable and fun. And I chatted to the others in the class. Got to know them. That always helps. We had a lot of fun!

But none of us really looked at it through our ages, more the type of lung conditions we had.

Hope it goes well for you!

You are all going for the same reason - to be the best you can be in whatever circumstances you find yourself. There will be a lot of solidarity and you really have no reason to feel nervous. Everyone starts from where they are at and everyone encourages each other. Good luck and enjoy :)

Well I got through the first session!

I felt like I shouldn't be there though

The excersizes were challenging but I did them

Really tired and chest hurt afterwards

Bp was high all the way through and they questioned wether I could carry on but I felt ok enough to and they checked it after each excersize

Pleased I went and my next session is Thursday 12th my 50th!!

Thank you for all your kind and encouraging words

Stay well

Mind was terrific, hard work but I walked 25% further at the end than at the start. One of the best bits was meeting the other patients, all very friendly and quite a mix of abilities. The staff were super

You will love it. All in the same boat, no pressure, and great to be doing something positive. You are never pushed, just do your own thing. It really made me feel good about myself again. Also great to be mixing with other people and having a chat. So much to learn from the visitors who come and give talks about things to. Enjoy!! and chill out xx

I've been going to rehab classes for about 6 months. Now I'm in the maintenance phase. Even at 65 I'm among the youngest in there. The program I'm in is called Operation Bounceback. It includes both cardiac and pulmonary patients, and my guess is 90 percent of them are on the cardiac side. But I can tell you, nobody will really notice you at all. Everybody is just trying to do their exercises, some while hooked up to oxygen. The nurses are all very nice and the social aspect of it tends to give me a boost. I always leave feeling better than when I arrived.
