After my last stay in hospital I was asked if I would like to go on a Pulmonary Rehabilitation course, I agreed and went for an assessment but failed even with my oxygen on. I then had several visits from a physio at home after a few sessions she asked if I would like to try the PR at the local community centre, there was no pressure, as she said go along if you can't manage or don't like it you can 'Jack'. I couldn't really see the point in going, I go out each day to tend to my animals and thought that was all the exercise I needed, who was this young woman to make suggestions to a 78 year old. How wrong I was, I did my 5th session last Friday and I can feel the benefits already, I am able to stand for longer, I can now do more jobs and to say I am 'well pleased' is possibly an underestimation ! I am now thinking of how I can join a similar group when the course finishes. I would recommend these courses to anyone, I have oxygen 24/7 but manage the exercises. The staff are brilliant, no pressure just a lot of encouragement. Don't sit in your chair thinking of what was, give a course a try. Best wishes, Tatters.

Hi Tatters, you are not so tatter now.
A positive and encouraging post. I enjoyed and benefitted from my PR course.

Hi
100% agree with what you are saying, any exercise even sitting in chair exercise with benefit you.
Think of a car before a service hard to start, runs rough, uses more fuel.
Your body is the car, your oxygen is the fuel.
By exercising on a regular basis you use less oxygen and get more benefit from the available oxygen we breath in.
Great post Tatters, exercise in PR gets you using muscles and building up strength and stamina, so important with the onset of winter and all the colds and viruses to keep at bay.I think you have probably kept fairly fit whilst looking after your animals too!😁

Great positive post Tatters, you like many others have found PR to be of great benefit and sharing that will encourage others to give it a go.
Hi Tatters
Well done, and thanks for reassuring me.
I start my first time PR next month...looking foreword to it.

Hi Velvet,
ive just finished my six weeks. Was really useful.
i loved it.
Meeting people in the same boat was good too.
Got to have a laugh !!!
Ann 😊
I swear by it! Pulmomary Rehab got me breathing better couple years ago. Then went in the hospital little over month ago for breathing problems after being around smoky room. I just started a new course of Pulmonary Rehab and am waiting for the full benefits to kick in so I can get off the constant oxygen.
It's encouraging to hear that people can improve things with a bit of effort.
Your surprised delight at the results of the PR says it all. Thanks for sharing xx
I have my assessment on wed , don't know what to expect , does anyone know what the assessment is about ?
That is great and I hope you continue to feel the improvements and are able to carry on after this course finishes.
Thanks for sharing. It is very helpful information. 😊
Hi don't often post but do have a read, just wanted to comment, my husband has IPF and has been waiting well over 12 months to attend a class. Live in South Wales, our support group (only been running for 6 months) has written to the powers that be in the hospital he attends to complain at the lack of corpses being run. The last course I think was last April, I think, surely if they are beneficial it should be more of a priority to run them.
Thanks
I feel sorry for your husband and disgusted that they are not running PR courses. I found mine so beneficial, not that it made a new man of me but gave me incentive to do something and to at least try and stay as I am and not get worse. I am a little disappointed I haven't had my assessment yet although I had a date for 8th Jan but as the physio had said she would do mine at home so I cancelled it, she hasn't been yet but must chase her up today. I am looking at Tai chi or some light gym work, really light lol. I think you should chase them up, what about your local Councillor or MP ! Let us know how you get on please. Tatters.
