Fostair 100/6

Hi I have been on Fostair 100/6 since diagnosed. About two months before Christmas I received a new inhaler. To my dismay it would only work every other press but would register a dose given. I spoke to the GP and was issued another of the same batch number which worked fine. I filled in the fault reporting form etc.

The next two were fine and worked. I have just started a new inhaler and the same problem as manifested. As any else in the group had a problem with their Fostair?

So far, no problems with mine, now I will have jinxed myself by saying that.

Thanks 2Greys it's a strange one. I originally thought could I be doing something wrong but as the last two have worked without error then it must be a cliche in the inhaler.

I have found that some become unusable once down to about 40 measures!

I always keep a spare in the fridge just in case?

Do you have asthma?

in reply to Leesea

You answered a question I have not yet asked! So fostair needs to be kept in the fridge, only one pharmacist mentioned it but I don't see any wrighting about it anywhere.

Not once opened.

It’s kept in the fridge by the pharmacy and has to be kept in the fridge until opened.

At least that’s my understanding.

Got a few hanging around that's not been in the fridge, can they still be used?

Me too I would like this question answered too. I had two and one used straight away and the other one buried in my draw? Would it be a problem if I didn't use it straight away.

in reply to elanaoali

It can't be much of a problem as no one says anything when collecting. Will start putting them in fridge from now on though.

I remember when I first had it prescripted they said it was stored in fridge til it was dispensed. I going to ask my friendly pharmacist this week.

Yes, my pharmacy always stores it in fridge and tells me to before I use it?

No emphysema. Both my inhalers that have gone wrong have been almost as soon as I got them.

A lot off users are finding that Fostair is less effective after using half off the inhaler me included when I open a new one I can really feel the difference for the first few uses and it becomes less effective has the days go by perhaps this is what is happening or the inhaler itself should be stored in fridge i am starting on the new Trimbow soon cant say i will be sorry to stop the Fostaire xx

How long have you been on Fostair?

I started last September! It returned me to normal. I have been told I don’t have copd, but asthma...., I am convinced I have copd.... why develop asthma at my age!!!

I been on fostair 100/6 myself for 4 months now switch from seretide 250. Adult onset asthma can happen at any age from 18 years up. Mine developed in my 30's but there are people here and on the asthma forum for any age. So you won't be the odd one out.

I wasn't convinced about fostair as Seretide worked for me very well. My GPs are hoping the smaller particles will be developed better to my airways.

I hope every ones problems with their inhalers get sorted out. I might be on a different one by the end of march as I seeing my consultant. We will see. Goodnight and stay warm.

I was devastated when they stopped my Seretide after several years, cost-cutting of course but they really did me a favour; I find Fostair far more effective and more versatile - it can be used as a rescue in emergencies.

I glad you had success with Fostair. I was never forced off Seretide (for cost-cutting measures) but given the choice to the another. This was before changing to Fostair that one didn't work and I change back to seretide. I am glad you had success like me.

I only use it as a combination inhaler not for rescue treatment (Ventolin for me).

Hi. I had this happen to me in April 2018. My chemist in Northampton did the same and helped me report it. I only noticed because I became ill. I had 30 puffs left but nothing coming out of the mouthpiece. Reported it, but after about 10 weeks, the manufacturer said they could find nothing wrong with it. It was replaced free of charge. Its now July now have 25 puffs left and again it seems to be puffing less and less. I suspect it will fail completely tomorrow 🙄.

I've had 2 Fostair 100/6 inhalers stop working on me in the last 12 months, both showing around 50 doses left but with nothing coming out when I sprayed it. The first time I didn't realise for a few days until I found I was needing to take salbutamol regularly (normally I can go weeks at a time without salbutamol at all). The second time it happened I was away from home so I ended up having to get my surgery to send through the prescription to a pharmacy near where I was staying, causing wasted time, as well as shelling out for the prescription, of course. I've just emailed fostair's manufacturer (info@chiesi.uk.com) complaining about it, on the advice of my pharmacy, so we shall see what happens from that.
