Stiff neck

Does anyone else get a stiff neck during an exacerbation? I had this last time and have it again this time - don't know if it's coincidence or a symptom. xx Moy

I do Moy. It gets sorer and stiffer as the evening goes on and when I get into bed, I wrap a light cotton t-shirt round it. The warmth and gentle support seem to help.

I took a couple of Co-Codamol last night and managed a good night's sleep, but now I'm up and about it's bad again. Interesting to know I'm not the only one. xx Moy

I've begun to notice that too. Likewise, don't know if it's condition related. Anyone else have a clue?

I suffer with that, my theory is that when I'm coughing my throats becomes sore and probably, inflamed and that may make the neck ache too? I've no idea if that's right it's just a theory of mine.

Check you medications' patient leaflet for possible side effects, stiff neck is not common but I know first hand is a side of Statins, possibly others.

Best wishes

I do take Statins but have only had the problem during an exacerbation - could be the cough, I suppose. xx Moy

I’ve had the same thing and saw a physio this week as the pain was terrible and I wasn’t sleeping. She was brilliant and - good news - has given me a set of exercises that has started to make it better straight away . She says it is postural and a result of the combination of muscle weakening as a result of inactivity - I was in bed for a week with my last chest infection - and a tendency to round my shoulders and raise them when I cough. The exercises are really easy and make an immediate difference - I can really recommend this course of action. Frances

Thank you, Frances. Sounds like a good plan! xx Moy

Maybe you tighten up your muscles coughing etc..I use heat. I have a little square electric blanket the size of my back more or less and the physio said to put it on a high number like 6 out 10.

It helps so much..when I am unwell I doze off with this wonderful heat in my neck and back..

That sounds perfect! I feel as though I could do with some heat on it. It was lovely in the shower letting the warm water flow onto my neck and shoulder - I wanted to stay there all day! xx Moy

There you are!! A hot shower or a hairdryer even until until you get your little blanket. I bought it in a shop with all sorts of electric goodies^^

Hi I get this and it can be scary. I had a bullectomy and pleurodesis a years ago and still get pounding pressurepains. Gp Tunis I am neurotic.

I find heat wheat bag helps with neck.
