Right lung consolidation with only chest pain no other symptoms

I am a 34 year old mother of 3, aged 6, 3 and 4 months!

I don't smoke and I don't have asthma. I have been having chest pain for the last few months which can be quite painful, sometimes more so than others.

So I initially went to the doctors about 8 weeks ago, who ordered a chest x ray which I had the next day. They call me with the results informing me I had a chest infection, which surprised me as I didn't have a cough, I didn't have any wheezing, I didn't have a temperature, I just had pain. Nonetheless, I took the amoxicillin I was prescribed for a week, which didn't get rid of the pain, so the GP advised me to take another dose of amoxicillin which I did, but I was still intermittently getting pain, in my chest and back. They then thought it might be my gallbladder which I had an ultrasound and all was clear!

I had the follow up x ray last week which still shows consolidation on my right lung so I have been referred to respiratory medicine at the hospital to have a CT scan to investigate further.

I also was asked to have some more bloods done which again all came back clear!?

I am really worrying, as initially they thought I might have atypical pneumonia but my GP said she isn't sure as no markers are coming back in my blood tests and they are all clear!

Has anyone had anything similar or can reduce my panic in anyway?

I do hope this is sorted out soon Lea, it took me 6 months to get over a chest infection, but I was lucky, unlike you, I didn't have 3 young children to look after. I hoe you're fit and well soon. Lilian xxxx

I sending a big hug as anxiety is a terrible thing. I don't know the answer to your question but it seems like everything is being done to find out what's going on. Do you have any idea when you will have your CT scan? Hopefully you'll be seen very soon.

It is good news that no markers have been identified and that's positive.

Chest infections can take time to clear. They also use different antibiotics, sometimes one after the other. My lungs like doxycycline but hate some other drugs.

Hopefully they've given you something to relieve / reduce the pain at the moment?

I would have to ask the GP if I had been referred for an early CT rather than editing weeks. Maybe you could ask?

I'm hoping you hear very, very soon and if not go back to your GP and emphasis his anxious you are.

I have been told the CT scan should coke through in the next couple of weeks.

That's the worrying thing is that they now don't think it is an infection as antibiotics didn't clear it and my blood tests don't show any signs of an infection. Which worries me it could be something more sinister.

In the mean time they have prescribed me Clarithromycin to see if that works but upon reading further on the internet it seems this can be contributing to my severe anxiety!?

I look forward to having some answers after my CT scan! Xx

Good the CT is happening soon. The drugs don't help too. At least you know why you are feeling like this plus the situation will make you anxious too.

I phoned the BLF helpline and a lovely nurse phoned me back. Really useful. Perhaps you would like to do the same?

I try and keep busy and that's useful too. I'm sure your children will help you do that.

If you are like me, I'm anxious anyway and as you say the drugs don't help!

I'm sure you can keep very busy with the children and that will help. Hopefully there are others to talk to as well.

I gad lots of questions so I phoned the BLF help line and a nurse got back to me. She was lovely and maybe you would find that useful too?

I had amoxicillin and it didn’t work clearing up infection but was put on clarithromycin 500mg for 7 days and infection went .
